April 16, 1940 - January 6, 2021

Jim Woodward, 80 of San Antonio, passed away Wednesday, January 6. 2021.

Colonel (Ret) James Karl Woodward was born April 16, 1940 in Mertens, Texas to Claude Haskell Woodward and Mildred Claudine Goodman. He graduated from Albany High School and was a proud member of the Class of 1962 at Texas A&M University, where he was commissioned as an Armor Lieutenant in the United States Army. He met the love of his life of 53 years and married Bonnie Woodward on December 16, 1967 in Detroit, Michigan. An amazing selfless servant to his family, friends and his country, he dedicated his life to serving others including 30 years on active duty with two tours of duty in Viet Nam. He obtained his dream job in his final Army assignment, returning to his beloved Texas A&M to serve as the Professor of Military Science. After he retired from the Army he continued to mold and shape future generations by teaching 5th grade for 6 years at Southwest Elementary School in San Antonio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Haskell Woodward, and one brother, Charles Haskell Woodward.

Jim Woodward is survived by his wife Bonnie of San Antonio; son, John Woodward and wife Allison and granddaughters Megan and Brooke of Dripping Springs, TX; son Michael Woodward and wife Irma of College Station, TX; a twin sister, Carolyn Rush of Hobbs, New Mexico; and a brother, John R. Woodward and wife Annette of Dallas.
