Jerome J. "Buddy" Lednicky Jr., age 84, of West, passed away early Friday morning, January 1, 2021 at his residence.

A rosary will be recited 5:00 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West by Rev. Stephen Nesrsta, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 8, 2021, with Rev. Ed Karasek, Rev. Stephen Nesrsta, and Rev. Timothy Vaverek as celebrants. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard. Very limited capacity, facial masks, and social distancing are required at all services. LIVE STREAM of the service will be provided.

Buddy was born May 22, 1936 in West, the son of Jerome and Agnes (Jaska) Lednicky. He attended St. Mary's School and was a 1953 graduate of West High School, prior to receiving his bachelors degree from Texas A&M University in 1957. Buddy proudly served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserves. On May 30, 1959 he was united in marriage to Lucille Gerik in Abbott. Buddy was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, where he served on the parish council. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2305, American Legion Post #479, West Community Hospital Board, West Rest Haven Board of Directors, Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo Board, and West Sports Anglers Club. Buddy was President and Chairman of State National Bank in West for 53 years before retiring in 2016. Buddy enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, telling stories, and watching Aggie Football. He loved hosting and cooking for family gatherings.

Buddy is preceded in death by his parents; sons-in-law, Chuck Horton and Mike McKenzie; and brothers, Edward Lednicky and Joseph Lednicky.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Lucille Lednicky of West; his children, Kathleen Horton of West, Ann Melasky and husband Greg of Forney, Karen Shelton and husband Burl of West, and Michael Lednicky and wife Jill of West; a brother, Bernard Lednicky and wife Carolyn; sisters, Elizabeth Schiller, Patricia Patton and husband David, and Aggie Inman; sisters-in-law, Patricia Lednicky and Catherine Lednicky; grandchildren, Mindy Nelson and husband Ryan, Michelle Ivy, Kristy Nail and husband Riley, A.K. Horton, Jessica Browning and husband Aaron, Keith Horton and wife Hillary, Lacey Maertz and husband Colby, Abigail McKenzie, Zachary Lednicky, Luke Lednicky and Jacob Lednicky; great grandchildren, Sadie, Hannah, Hallie, Hadley, Blair, Brazos, Deacon, Pierce, Cruz, Quinn, Brody, Hayden and Piper; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers are Tim Lednicky, Tommy Lednicky, Keith Horton, Colby Maertz, Buddy Cernosek, Riley Nail, Aaron Browning, Chris Ivy, Ronnie Gerik and Zachary Lednicky. Honorary pallbearers Luke Lednicky, Jacob Lednicky and past and present employees of State National Bank.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Endowment Trust.
