G. RANDALL “RANDY’ WILLIAMS
March 27, 1951 - December 6, 2020
Dr. George Randall Williams, MD, 69, died on December 6, 2020 in Gainesville, Florida surrounded by the love of his wife, Dr. Sandra Arey, son Zak Arey and his wife, Stacey Lee.
Born in San Antonio, Texas on March 27, 1951, the son of Dorothy Williams Lusk and the late George Williams Jr., Randy followed the tradition of his father and his brother John Williams and attended Texas A&M University. There he received degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry. He took his medical degree in the Department of Pharmacology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
Although he remained a lifelong Aggie, he also became a Gator when he moved to Gainesville for his residency in Psychiatry at the University of Florida. He was Board Certified in General Psychiatry and in Forensic Psychiatry.
Smart, bright, dedicated, patient and kind, and with a sense of humor, he cared for patients as a General Psychiatrist at Wellspring Psychiatry and Psychotherapy in Gainesville for 25 years. He also worked as a Forensic Psychiatrist for 10 years at North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center in Gainesville.
He lovingly nurtured his relationships with his California brother, John Williams and his wife, Elaine Trotter, with his Texas sister, Gayle Girdley and her husband, John Girdley, as well as with his mother Dorothy Williams Lusk, who also resides in Texas.
Friendships shared were deep and long lasting. He enjoyed planning gatherings meant to sustain those bonds year after year. His family and friends had great fun together on many fine trips.
Marriage for him and his wife was seen as a Grand Adventure. They shaped one another’s lives for four decades, lovingly contributing to the evolution of each and of the relationship itself. As a family man, he relished the role of father to Zak Arey. From travels across the globe together to intimate bonfires in the back yard, the family created indelible experiences for one another.
Due to health and safety concerns in time of pandemic, a public gathering to celebrate the life of this good and kind man will be foregone. Instead, his family suggests that each person, in their own private way, recall good memories and the unique impact Dr. Randy Williams had on their life.
In lieu of flowers or a donation in his name, please practice kindness and take care of one another.
