NOVEMBER 16, 1931 – DECEMBER 5, 2020


On December 5t, 2020, Melroy Ignatz Brandt passed away in San Antonio at the age of 89. Melroy was born on November 16, 1931, in Weimar, Texas, to Oscar and Tillie Brandt. While in high school Melroy earned the Eagle Scout award in 1948. He graduated from Weimar High School in 1950. After graduation he attended Texas A&M University where he served in the Corp of Cadets. He graduated in 1954 with a degree in mechanical engineering.

Melroy married the former Bernice Sekerka in Weimar in 1953. Melroy and Bernice raised their three sons in San Antonio, Texas. Bernice passed away in 1998; Melroy was widowed until 2001 when he married Valeria Cooke and was blessed with a bonus family. While in San Antonio, Melroy served as a Scoutmaster for many years. He was actively involved at Saint John Neumann Catholic Church where he served as a lector and a Eucharist minister. He was also involved with the Knights of Columbus where he served in various offices including Financial Secretary. Melroy was also a member of The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem and received his shell while visiting the Holy Land.

Melroy spent many years at San Antonio Real Property Management Agency, which managed all of the military bases in San Antonio, where he served as the Chief of Engineering and Construction Division. He was also a member of the American Military Engineers.

Melroy is survived by his three sons and their wives: Clifford (Young) Brandt, Keith (Tina) Brandt, and Jason (Jahnnette) Brandt; his 5 Brandt grandsons: Justin (Adrienne), Jonathan, Taylor, Travis, Jaron (Michaela); granddaughters Lisa Presley and Beth Brandt; great grandchildren: Josiah Brandt and Emily, Ian, and Mia Doud; six “bonus” children: Cynthia (Mike) Smith, Mark (Mary) Cooke, Kathleen (Pete) Schlinder, John (Kari) Cooke, Mary Beth (Stan) Johnson, and Patrick (Sherrie) Cooke; 15 bonus grandchildren and 11 bonus great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother Harold (Beth) and nieces and nephews.
