Harry Reed Shawver, Jr.
SEPTEMBER 3, 1934 – DECEMBER 1, 2020

Harry was born in Dallas, Texas, on September 3, 1934. He passed away peacefully on December 1, 2020. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Evelyn Shive Shawver, and his parents, Olive Wooten Shawver and Harry Reed Shawver. He is survived by his four children and their spouses: Reed Shawver (Alisa), Kathryn Keller (John), Susan Dunnill (Billy), and Robert Shawver (Amy). He was a wonderful grandfather to his nine grandchildren: Colton Shawver; Lauren and John Harrell; Connor, William, and Kathryn Dunnill; and Zack, Daniel, and Chiara Shawver. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and his wife, Robert Allen Shive, Jr. and Lynda of Jackson, MS.

Harry lived his entire life in Dallas, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1951. He received his undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University in 1955, where he played football his freshman year. He received his Juris Doctorate and Master of Liberal Arts degrees from Southern Methodist University.

After graduating from Law School, Harry entered the private practice of law in Dallas, where he practiced for several years before focusing on real estate transactions and title work. He then joined American Title Company of Dallas, where he became owner and president before retiring. He was a member of the Dallas Bar Association and the Texas Bar Foundation and served as president of the Dallas Homebuilders Association. In his later years, he became involved in the city of University Park, serving as a city council member and as Mayor Pro Tempore. He was also a former president of the Park Cities Historic and Preservation Society.

Harry was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Highland Park Presbyterian Church, Park Cities Presbyterian Church and Highland Park United Methodist Church. He was heavily involved in his children’s extracurricular activities, including coaching youth sports, Indian Guides and Princesses and the Boy Scouts of America.

A memorial service will be held outside at 2 pm on Wednesday, December 9th, at the Pavilion at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 7403 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas, 75225. The service will be live-streamed at https://youtu.be/IFJUROK2jFE .

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Park Cities Historic and Preservation Society or to the charity of your choice.
