J. R. Slentz '52
March 22, 1926 - September 13, 2020
J. R. Slentz passed away November 19, 2020 in Fort Worth, Texas.
A graveside service was held Monday, November 23rd at Denver City Memorial Park at 11:00 a. m.
He was born on March 22nd 1926 in Burkburnett, Texas to Lloyd Leroy and Grace Dodd Slentz. When he was very young he moved with his family to the East Texas oilfields where his father went to work for Atlantic Richfield. He attended elementary school in Carlisle,
Texas. His family moved to Kilgore where he graduated high school in 1943. He attended Kilgore Junior College before enlisting in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. After his discharge he enrolled in Texas A & M University where he majored
in mechanical engineering. He loved Texas A & M and became immersed in the Aggie Spirit and Traditions.
He had a calling to help and serve others. J. R. would be the first to offer help to someone in need. He helped countless family and friends as well as members of the community during their time of need. He was raised in a strong Christian home and was taught
to live by the Golden Rule which he did.
