Timothy Joseph Lavelle
1968 ∼ 2020
Timothy J. Lavelle, 52 of West Yarmouth, died on Monday, November 2, 2020, after a long illness. He was the son of Arlene Lavelle of South Yarmouth, and the late Patrick Lavelle. Tim was predeceased by his beloved brother Shawn. He is survived by his brothers Pat of Holyoke and Matt of South Yarmouth. He also leaves his sister and brother-in-law, Carl and Caitlin LaFleur of Longmeadow, and was the proud uncle of John Patrick and Alexandra. Tim grew up in Holyoke, attended local schools, and remained a true “Holyoker” all his life. He graduated cum laude from Fairfield University, and was a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta pre-med honor society. He studied in England junior year, and by the grace of God missed his scheduled flight home due to a bus accident; Flight Pan Am 103 tragically exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland on 12-21-88. After working in chemistry and biology labs post college, Tim earned his advanced degree in Environmental Engineering from Texas A&M University. He returned to New England to work as a consultant on air quality analysis for several transportation projects including SpaceX, which he proudly watched in 1st flight on 5-30-20. More recently he moved to Cape Cod, bought his own home, and worked as a hazardous waste inspector for Barnstable Public Health.
Tim was an avid sports fan and loved watching all the New England sports teams. Tim especially loved football, played for many years, and loved rooting for his alma mater Texas A&M “Aggies”. Tim loved fishing, with his dad and brothers as a boy, with his many friends, and more recently with his niece and nephew. He loved all types of music and gardening, especially growing his own fruits and vegetables in his home garden. Tim loved his family, and was proud of his Irish heritage, visited Ireland several times, and enjoyed celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Holyoke.
Tim loved his long and loyal friendships, and with his easy-going personality he had a great many.
Tim battled Lyme Disease and its many complications for the past 4 years. In lieu of flowers, a request is made for donations to the Lyme Disease Association. The family will hold a private burial with plans to hold a memorial service in Holyoke for all friends and family at a later date.
