Vita Marie Salvaggio Othick
September 19, 1951 - October 14, 2020

Vita Marie Salvaggio Othick was born in Hearne, Texas on September 19, 1951 to Martha Beatrice Lewis and Tony Salvaggio and peacefully passed away with full rites according to her Catholic faith on Tuesday, October 14, 2020.

Vita was the first born to Tony and Martha and was the “big sister” figure for her brother, Dominic and sisters, Theresa and Margaret.

Vita graduated from Hearne High School class of 1969’. She then went on to further her education at Texas A&M University and received her degree in Education in 1973.

Vita started her teaching career at South Knoll Elementary in College Station as an inspiring and loving third-grade teacher and retired after thirty-eight years of dedication to her students. She spent many hours with special attention to details to make sure her students were taught with care and love.

Vita met her husband, Ricardo (Richard) while attending college and they were married on July 3, 1974 (civil) and January 3, 1975 (Catholic). This union brought two sons.

Vita was a gentle and kind soul, loved teaching her students, and loved everyone.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martha Beatrice Lewis and Tony Salvaggio; grandparents, Dominic Tony “DT” and Vita Falco Salvaggio, and Willie Elma Smith and Jot Franklin Lewis.

She leaves behind her husband, Ricardo (“Richard”) Othick (TAMU class of 1971); sons, José (“Joseph”), wife, Jennifer of New York, and Felipe of College Station; Brother, Dominic Salvaggio; sisters, Therese Estes (Mike), and Margaret Salvaggio; Nieces, Paula Salvaggio, Megan (James) Collins, Kaleigh Estes (Devan), Dorothy Estes, Brianna Hoskins (Tony) and Suezan Yielding (Joshua); Nephews, Tony Joe Salvaggio (Rain), Corbin Estes (Rylie), Tony Estes, Isaac Moore and Christopher Salvaggio; and many great-nieces and nephews.

A rosary will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hearne, Texas on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, Bryan, Texas.
