Roland Douglas Shivers began his eternal life in the presence of his Savior and the company of his family and loved ones on October 8, 2020. Born February 10, 1932 in Elysian Fields, Texas to Mattie Mae Tiller and Henry Grady Shivers, Roland attended school in both Elysian Fields and Grand Saline, ultimately graduating from Carthage High School. Upon graduation, Roland served his country in the Quartermaster Corp of the United States Army, and was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant. At the completion of his military service, he returned to Carthage where he was a devoted husband and father while operating the family dairy and cattle business. An active contributor to the community, Roland served as Chairman of both the Panola County Soil Conservation Service and the Panola County Cattlemen’s Association. He was also an active member of the Panola County Farm Bureau and Beefmasters Association, and served as a mentor to the many young men who worked at the dairy over the years. Roland will be remembered by family and loved ones for his kind and selfless heart, along with his dedication to his faith, family and friends, and his tireless work ethic. Roland was preceded in death by his wife Joanne Prine Shivers and brothers Henry Grady Jr. and Linward Shivers.

John 14:1-6 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
