Floyd Blount, Jr.
June 4, 1928 - October 8, 2020
Floyd Blount, Jr. was born in San Antonio June 4, 1928, to Floyd Blount, Sr. of Hubbard, Texas and Sidney Wright Blount, also of Hubbard. He was their only child.
With an impressive Methodist heritage, Floyd attended South Alamo Street Methodist Church in San Antonio at the age of 5. At 6 years old, he attended Woodlawn Methodist Church also in San Antonio. Floyd joined First United Methodist Church in Athens at the
age of 10 with his parents and lived in Athens until he graduated from high school. After high school, Floyd attended Texas A&M University in College Station where he graduated in 1949 with a degree in Economics, but his hobby was horticulture. A member of
the famed Aggie Corps, US Army Reserve.
March 31, 1956, Floyd Blount, and Anna Lee Foster of Cleburne married in a ceremony in San Antonio conducted by the Rev. Howard H. Hollowell, a Methodist minister.
Anna Lee held a BS degree in foods and nutrition and was dietician for the Dallas ISD. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
Floyd was Machine Accounting Supervisor for Firestone Tire and Rubber at their regional office in Dallas in 1961, according to Sampson Stewart The Royal Ancestors and Some of his Descendants, and established Genealogical and Biographical Reference book researched
and published by his mother, Sidney Wright Blount. A true horticulture expert, his hobby brought him much knowledge about many varieties of pecan, orange, chestnut trees and blueberries. He never stopped learning, grafting as many as 20 varieties of pecans
on one tree “just to see if I could do it”. His attempt was successful. He also never stopped learning about the Bible, attending Sunday school, Bible study each Wednesday morning with his friends from church, and ending the time together with breakfast at
a local restaurant. Saturday mornings found him again with friends for breakfast. Floyd had a special attraction to puzzles, and as a young man, he created many crossword and math puzzles and sold them to publishers “just for the fun of it”. He was an avid
fan of crossword and Jumble puzzles in daily newspapers and often called a friend to see who completed a Jumble first. Floyd visited Anna Lee’s grave each day, then traveled to his blueberry patch in his little red truck to visit the grave of their beloved
dog Millie.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday October 14, 2020 at First United Methodist Church, Athens with Rev. Jason Smith officiating under the direction of Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
