January 21, 1927 - September 04, 2020
Don F. Haynes, 93, of Palestine passed away Friday, September 4, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. Graveside services were held Monday, September 7, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery with Father Jonathon Frels officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Don was born January 21, 1927 in Houston, Texas to Donald F. Haynes, Sr. and Blanche Dupree Haynes. With his parents permission he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17during WWII. He became a Coxswain on the USS White Marsh and piloted landing crafts in the battles of Saipan, Palau, Guadalcanal, Luzon, and many other battles in the South Pacific all the way to Japan.
Upon returning home he married his high school sweetheart Joan Latimer. Don was a proud graduate of Texas A&M and retired from the Carnation Company as District Manager in charge of 6 Southern States. They moved to Palestine in 1988 and he immediately found golfing buddies, poker pals, and lifelong friends. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the VFW and a former King of the Mardi Gras Krewe of Revelry.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Margaret Joan Haynes, daughters: Phyllis Anne Seat and husband Gary, Karen Kim Kellar and husband Richard all of Palestine, Grandchildren: Donald Brandon Seat and wife Melanie of Palestine, Brooke Louise Salitore and husband Marc of Tyler and Benjamin John Kellar and wife Amy of Leander. Great Grandchildren; Austin, Aidan, and Allie Seat of Palestine, Casen, Sloane, and Morgan Salitore of Tyler, Emery Kellar of Leander.
He was preceded in death by his mother Blanche (Dupree) Haynes, his father Donald F. Haynes, Sr., and step mother Ruth Haynes, brother James Louis Haynes, and sister Mary Frances Haynes.
The family would like to thank Windermere at Cartmell and the Memory Care Center for all the love, attention, and special care they showed Don, Daddy and PaPa.
