Douglas Karl Carriger
Douglas Karl Carriger passed away peacefully on Friday, the 7th of August, 2020 surrounded by loving family. He was under the care of Trinity Hospice in Sienna Plantation. He was a resident of Morrison, Colorado. Doug was born on June 27th, 1938 in Marfa, Texas, and grew up in Santa Monica, California, while spending his summers in the Big Spring area of Texas on family farms. He graduated from Santa Monica High School. He received a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M in 1960, a Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Stanford University in 1961, and an Executive MBA from Dartmouth in 1987.
Doug worked for Texaco, Inc. for 36 years: he started as an Area Engineer and retired as the VP of Western Hemisphere in 1997. His career included several moves that included Sacramento, Bakersfield, and Paso Robles, California; Denver, Colorado; Casper, Wyoming; White Plains, New York (where he lived in Wilton, Connecticut); and New Orleans, Louisiana. He returned to Denver with Texaco, then retired there amongst many old friends from his earlier years there. He volunteered for SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) for many years as an advisor to entrepreneurs.
Doug was a life-long athlete who enjoyed baseball (Second Baseman) and surfing as a teen. As an adult, he loved both skiing and waterskiing, tennis, boating, and golf. He spent hours with his beloved wife, Marjorie, teaching all of these sports to their children and grandchildren. Later in life he enjoyed fly-fishing in the beautiful streams of the Rocky Mountains, and more golf. He achieved the elusive “Hole in One” at the age of 78 at his home course at Pinehurst Country Club.
He is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Marjorie Louise Stephens Carriger of Morrison, Colorado; his daughter, Ann Carriger Osterhold and his son-in-law, Robert James Osterhold of Sienna Plantation, Texas; his son, Douglas Karl Carriger, Jr. and his daughter-in-law, Brittney Bench Carriger of Louisville, Kentucky; his son, Darrell Jeffrey Carriger and his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Smith Carriger of Midland, Texas; and ten grandchildren: Camille Osterhold Brewer and his grandson-in-law, Raleigh Brewer, Robert Osterhold, Jr., Douglas Karl Carriger, III, Arthur Albright Carriger, Lily Louise Carriger, Grace Marie Carriger, Kile M’Kenzie Carriger, Cole Darrell Carriger, Connor Watson Carriger, and Caden Jeffrey Carriger.
A Family Memorial Service will be held on Friday, the fourteenth of August at 2:00 pm in the Chapel at First United Methodist Church of Missouri City. Due to the Caronavirus Pandemic, it will be limited to family only, however, a live-stream link of the service will be available.
