A long time ago, in a place far far away....
Matt was born the youngest of three children to Robert D. and Helen Whitmer Cresap. Matt was born in Minneapolis and moved to Tulsa when he was two. From there to Houston when he was five, where he would spend most of his youth.
After graduating from Memorial High School in Houston, with his long hippie hair, he joined the Navy in 1975. In the Navy, assigned to the USS Schenectady, he traveled in the Pacific. He reached the rank of Engine-man Third Class. He earned his Golden Dragon by crossing the International Date line. Years later he earned his Shell Back by crossing the equator.
After returning home from the Navy, Matt enrolled in SouthWest Texas State University where he spent 2 years. In 1980, Matt decided he wanted to become a Marine Engineer and enrolled in Texas A&M Galveston, where he earned a BS in Marine Engineering, and a Coast Guard Third Assistant Engineer License. While at Texas A&M Galveston he met Ann Folk. They were able to work together on the Texas Clipper during his Senior cruise, in the summer of 1983. The ship went to ports along the east coast, St Marteen, Venezuela, and Mexico. During that summer cruise Matt proposed and it was the beginning of a great relationship. Matt graduated from Texas A&M Galveston in December of 1983 and went to work for Clipper Cruise Line based in St Louis MO. Matt and Ann were married in May of 1984 after Ann graduated.
In 1986, Matt & Ann moved to Cedar Park, TX, where they enjoyed being near Matt's family, in Houston. They spent lots of time boating on Lake Travis and at their lake house. After working several high-tech and facility jobs, including Applied Materials and Exodus Communications, Matt decided to open his own company providing boat dock support on Lake Travis. He created a well respected dock service company where he, in his words, 'Helped People Have Fun on the Lake'. Matt and Ann raised their children in a wonderful neighborhood in Cedar Park, where Matt was active with Y-Indian Guides, and Boy Scouts.
In 2015, Matt and Ann enjoyed a European River Cruise along the Danube river, the vacation continued with a trip to Prague and through Italy with the entire family. The last several years Matt and Ann enjoyed traveling to National Parks, and spending time at their property in Bertram Texas, where they just built a cabin.
Matt passed away comfortably at his home after a four year battle with colon cancer. Matt is survived by his wife of 36 years, Ann Folk, his son Robert Allen Cresap, daughter Chandlee Ann Cresap, sister Danna Cresap, and brother Marc Cresap. Matt is predeceased by his parents Robert and Helen Cresap, and infant son Thomas Earl Cresap. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Habitat for Humanity, where Matt volunteered, or a charity of your choice. Visitation will be held at Beck Funeral Home in Cedar Park on Sunday September 13 from 5:00 to 7:00pm with Military honor guard at 6:00pm.
