Wilton Andrew Hrncir
October 27, 1927 - May 16, 2020
Wilton Andrew Hrncir, 92, of Hallettsville, enjoyed a blessed and full life before being called home on Saturday, May 16, 2020. Known to his friends as Bill and to his family as Popo, he was born on October 27, 1927, to Charles R. and Ida V. (Gallia) Hrncir. On July 4, 1949, he married his sweetheart Alma Joyce “Sweet” Timm of Hallettsville. Their joyful life together included bringing three daughters into the world: Laurinda Kay Abshier & the late husband Roy III of Roanoke; Jane Pesek & husband Andrew of Hallettsville and Terrie Pagel & husband Patrick of Brenham.
Bill was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, serving as a lector, usher, and Eucharistic Minister for Sunday Mass; and the Knights of Columbus. As a Knight, he held many offices including Grand Knight and District Deputy.
Bill began his studies at Texas A&M University, but World War II temporarily changed his plans, and he became an Army Medic serving as a Surgical Technician. After his service, he graduated from Texas A&M, and returned home to Hallettsville. His career included running the family dairy, a local service station, Justice of the Peace, and insurance agent through RVOS.
Bill’s call to civic duty also kept him very involved in the community where he was a member of the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Industrial Corporation, Hospital Board, Farm Bureau, and Ambulance Service. His leadership roles included Assistant Fire Chief in the Hallettsville Volunteer Fire Department, past President of the Lions Club, past President of the Chamber of Commerce, and a 6 year term on the HISD School Board. He was a recipient of the Community Service Award in 1967 and the Man of the Year Award in 1968.
Bill’s favorite hobbies included hunting, fishing, feeding the ducks, gardening, ranching, farming, carpentry, woodworking, mechanic work, and creating miniature towns for his model train sets. He became a master of many trades, as he was never afraid to tackle any new task or develop a new skill.
Bill was foremost a man of God, directed by his faith, and highly respected as a role model. Bill always gave his time, talent, and treasure to the Sacred Heart Church and School communities, and was readily a generous supporter. He instilled high morals, honesty, integrity, a hard work ethic, and sound values to his family and those close to him. Bill was always eager to lend a helping hand. The honor and respect he showed to his wife, children, family, and community are legacies that will endure. Many came to him as a trusted advisor in times of need, or to seek his advice on how to fix something that was broken. His wonderful sense of humor and laughter at the telling of a good joke will be greatly missed.
Bill is survived by: his wife Alma “Sweet”; 3 daughters, Laurinda Kay Abshier & the late husband Roy III of Roanoke; Jane Pesek & husband Andrew of Hallettsville and Terrie Pagel & husband Patrick of Brenham; brother Oran Thomas “Doc” Hrncir & wife Lea of Copperas Cove; sister Ida Vivian Bludau & husband Winfred “Wink” Bludau of Hallettsville; nine grandchildren, Roy Abshier IV & wife Keri, Kerri Ketchum & husband Shannon, Andrew Pesek Jr. & wife Kim, Wilton Pesek & wife Shannon, Jason Pesek & wife Katie, Jonathan Pesek & wife Cheryl, Paula Carvelli & husband Frank, Janna Goodlett & husband Brandon and, Garner Pagel & wife Kate; nineteen great-grandchildren, Brayden, Malia, Anna, Lainie, Ashley, Kayla, Travis, Hunter, Aubrey, Wilton, Cecilie, Andrea, Jaylan, Jakson, Grace, Gabriella, Angelina, Frank Jr. and Layla.
Bill was preceded in death by; his parents, brother Charles Leonard “C.L.” Hrncir and son-in-law Roy Abshier III.
Funeral Mass Service: 1 pm, Friday, May 22, 2020, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.
Visitation: starting at 6 pm, Thursday, at Kubena Funeral Home; with Rosary starting at 7 pm.
Officiant: Msgr. John Peters.
Memorials: Sacred Heart Catholic Church or School, Knights of Columbus or Donor’s Choice.
Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
