Jack Grochoske
OCTOBER 20, 1929 – AUGUST 2, 2020

Louis “Jack” Grochoske, of Baytown died on August 1, 2020.

He was born in Otto, TX on October 20, 1929. Jack graduated from Texas A&M, class of 1956. He retired from Jesse H. Jones High School in Houston, TX in 1985. He coached football and taught woodshop. He was affectionately known as Mr. “Gro” by his students. “Stop your lollygagging, and time to clean shop,” were his favorite sayings. His shop students looked forward to learning about woodworking tools, making wooden mantle clocks, cutting boards, and other woodworks.

He served in the Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant First Class on August 31, 1960.

A man of faith and dedicated member of Rollingbrook Fellowship and Baptist Church for more than 45 years, this was his second home. He loved being the greeter and designated hugger. He was always happy with a ready smile that we will miss. He was devoted to the church. Jack loved feeding his cows in North Zulch, and tinkering around with his John Deere tractors. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Grochoske, his sister Kathryn Kunze, and brother-in-law Benjamin Kunze.

He is survived by his wonderful family, Barbara and Tom Fields of Tarpley. Cullen Fields of Austin. Mary and Ronnie Ramsey of Crosby. Jansi Campbell and Dave of Aledo. Natalie Van Baale and John of Huffman. Pam Kunkle, Connie, Laila and Lemaria of Houston. Great grand nieces and nephews will forever remember Uncle Jack.

He was grateful for his long-time friendships with Jerry Taylor, and Tommy Carpenter. There were numerous church friends who picked him up faithfully on Sundays and for the Monday Men’s Bible study group. We know that he was loved by his church family and friends, and we are heartbroken to share that because of the pandemic, a private family burial has been planned in Mart, TX with Rev. Bill Yowell officiating. Thank you for your kind words and wonderful memories of Jack.

In lieu of traditional remembrances, please fight to end Alzheimer’s. The family would like to thank the staff of The Waterford Senior Living, and Faith Community Hospice for their care and compassion.

A public viewing is planned for Friday, August 7, 2020, from 11a-3p at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown, at 2444 Rollingbrook Dr. Baytown, TX 77521. Please remember to wear a mask and social distancing.
