Roll Call Tribute

John Rex Scarborough was born to James Nicholas Scarborough and Helen Dorothy Shell Scarborough in Ft. Worth, Texas on June 3, 1934. He died July 19, 2020 in Athens, Texas at the age of 86. He attended Aransas Pass schools. While attending Texas A &M, John was a member of the Aggie Band and a Ross Volunteer, graduating with a Mechanical Engineering degree in 1956. Upon graduation, he married Jackie Jean Oualline, and they had three children, Sherry, Laurie, and Alan. John later got a Master's Degree from SMU in Nuclear Engineering. Seeing the opportunity of the future, he went to work for IBM, where he sold mainframe computers for many years. After John retired, he and Jean were members of the Arlington Bass Club and fished in many bass tournaments. He also was very involved in community service with his church, the Labor of Love group, and the Food Pantry. After his wife, Jean's, death in 2010, John later married Cathie Pearson. John and Cathie enjoyed their trips to Colorado, and service to others.

John is preceded in death by his parents, James Nicholas Scarborough and Helen Dorothy Shell Scarborough, his first wife, Jackie Jean (Oualline) Scarborough, his sister Helen Sue Erwin, and his granddaughter, Elizabeth Escobar Scarborough. He is survived by his loving wife, Cathie Pearson, his 3 children, Sherry L. Scarborough Talbert and husband Richard Talbert, Laurie J. Scarborough Schuller and husband Michael Schuller, and Alan L. Scarborough; his brother-in-law Charles E. Oualline and wife Janice; stepdaughter Anne Pearson; and grandchildren: Ryan Weber, Natalie Weber, Jennifer Schuller, Amanda Schuller, Eric Schuller, and Patricia Scarborough, step-grandchildren William Talbert and Christy Blevin; and great grandchildren, Immy Adams and Moses Adams.

John will be remembered for his kind heart, his many projects, and his love for his family and extended family. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, future services are to be determined. Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church Athens, Texas or to the charity of your choice.
