Xavier Fernando Brito
September 17, 1967 - July 10, 2020

Xavier Fernando Brito passed away on July 10, 2020 in Houston, Texas at the age of 52. Xavier was born in 1967 in Quito, Ecuador and grew up in Alvin, Texas. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in engineering from Texas A&M University and worked for many years in the oil and gas industry.

Xavier worked in countries across South America and Africa as well as in Canada and the U.S. His many adventures included surviving earthquakes, having payroll drops in the middle of a rain forest and negotiating with tribal chiefs in Nigeria.

When he came home he enjoyed family time: his daughters’ tennis matches, water sports, piano recitals, science projects, tubing the Guadalupe River, the beach, family bicycling, Aggie football games, and being in the mountains of North Carolina. When Xavier was working overseas, Robyn kept everything running smoothly at home.

Above all, he was a loving husband, a selfless father, and a devoted family man.

Xavier is survived by his wife, Robyn Brito, daughters, Sophia and Julia Brito, mother and stepfather, Betty and Richard Armstrong, father, Jaime Fernando Brito, sister and brother-in-law, Cristina and Seth Barr, brother and sister-in-law, Jaime and Kate Brito, step-sister, Jennifer Rosenfeld and her husband Darryl, step-brother, Rick Armstrong and his wife Anh-Thu, and numerous other relatives and friends. Xavier was preceded in death by grandparents Bill and Marie DeWitt of Alvin, Texas and Gilberto and Sacramento Brito of Riobamba, Ecuador.

The service was held at Scott Funeral Home in Alvin, Texas and, due to the pandemic, was attended by immediate family only.

The family is grateful to MD Anderson and the incredible team led by Dr. Nazir Tannir for the excellent care Xavier received that extended his life from the expected two years for metastatic kidney cancer to eight years of high-quality life.

If you would like to memorialize Xavier, the family requests donations be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, specifically to support Dr. Tannir’s kidney cancer research. A check can be made payable to MD Anderson Cancer Center, with the memo or included note indicating “In Memory of Xavier Brito to support Dr. Nizar Tannir’s Kidney Cancer Research.” Donations can be mailed to Dr. Nizar M. Tannir c/o Ginger Araujo; MD Anderson Cancer Center - GU Medical Oncology; 1155 Pressler St., Unit 1374; Houston, TX 77030.

If making the donation online, go to gifts.mdanderson.org and choose for the donation to go to Other, and include the note “In Memory of Xavier Brito to support Dr. Nizar Tannir’s Kidney Cancer Research.”
