James Ray Hall
1940 - 2020
James Ray Hall went home to heaven on July 6, 2020. During his 80 years, Ray Hall was known as a kind man, devoted to his family and community. Raised in White Settlement, Texas, he graduated from Brewer High School. A star basketball and baseball player, he earned a baseball scholarship to attend Texas A&M University. He was a two-time all-Southwest Conference outfielder and had contract offers from the Los Angeles Dodgers and Minnesota Twins. A member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 1963, Ray loved his Aggies. He was a member of the Texas A&M Letterman’s Association, the Association of Former Students, the 12th Man Foundation, and an Aggie football season ticket holder.
He married Judy Crowell in 1964, and they lived their entire married life in the Fort Worth area. They shared a wonderful romance and loved each other deeply. They were best friends and lived a happy life together.
Ray worked at the Texas Highway Department and retired after 32 years of service. He was immensely proud of the highways he helped build for the Great State of Texas. Ray was a passionate sports fan, coaching Little League and never missing one of his son’s games. He loved ball players and young people and never failed to offer an encouraging word or a joke. Ray loved the Southlake Carroll Dragons, and was always in his seat under the Friday Night Lights.
Most importantly, he was a Christian man. He was a member of White’s Chapel United Methodist Church. He set a great example of leading his family in a Godly way.
Ray was proceeded in death by his parents, Wesley Hall and Pat Hall-Tillery, sister Patsy Lundsford, sister Billie Mead, and brother Freeman Hall.
He is survived by his beautiful wife of 56 years, Judy Crowell Hall of Keller, Texas, his son and daughter-in-law Scott and Casey Hall of Southlake, Texas, and his three beloved grandchildren: Jacqueline Hall, Jake Hall, and Jillian Hall of Southlake, Texas. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, friends, neighbors, and colleagues.
Ray Hall will be laid to rest at White’s Chapel United Methodist Church after a private memorial service. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the medical team and hospice professionals who offered exceptional care and support during Ray’s final season of life.
