Obituary for Dr. James Hardy Mallery

Dr. James Hardy Mallery, known as Jimmy to his family and friends, passed away on July 3, 2020. He was born on November 24, 1943 in Huntsville, Texas to Willie Peak, Jr. and Maurine Hardy Mallery. He was one of four children.

In 1962, Jimmy graduated from Huntsville High School with honors. He then went on to attend Sam Houston State University where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in microbiology. He attended the Texas A & M School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in August of 1971. He served two years in the U.S. Army before returning to Huntsville and establishing Mallery Veterinary Clinic. He practiced veterinary medicine for nearly 30 years before retiring in the early 2000s.
Jimmy enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was an active member of the Rotary Club of Huntsville and was proud of his association with those fine men and women. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Jane Praytor Mallery of Huntsville; son, James Matthew Mallery and grandson, Keemiwan Nowan Mallery, of Flagstaff, Arizona; sister-in-laws Ann Crump Mallery and Patricia Westman Praytor; and nieces and nephews Cheryl Yvonne Bell, Jeanne Mallery Foy, William Byron Townley, Jane Lacey Cline, Penn DeWall Mallery, Marc Givens Mallery, Dyan Long Klein, Kameron Westman Praytor, and M.E. Praytor III. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Charles Thomas Mallery and W.P. Mallery III; and sister Billie Jeanne Townley.

Graveside services will be Monday, July 13, 2020 at Adickes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery, in Huntsville, Texas at 11:00am. During this difficult time, the Mallery family wishes that you use your best judgement and do what you feel comfortable with, in order to attend Jimmy’s services.
