Bernie Berman
DECEMBER 7, 1936 – JUNE 7, 2020
On June 7, 2020, our beloved husband, father, son, uncle, cousin, and friend Bernard (Bernie) H. Berman peacefully passed away.
Born in Houston, Texas, on December 7, 1936 at St Joseph Hospital, he graduated from Reagan High School and was a member of the Fighting Texas Aggie Corp of Cadets at Texas A&M University. Whoop! After graduating with both a Bachelors and Masters in Mathematics in 1963, Bernie began what would become 50+ years of exciting adventures as an employee and contractor at IBM. In his early days he used his love for numbers to calculate and program the orbital trajectory of the Apollo Spacecraft around the moon, giving his part in bringing many missions safely back to Earth.
In his personal life, Bernie met his future bride and love of his life, Phyllis, in 1960 and the 2 were married in 1961. His life included experiencing many cultures, including living abroad in Tokyo, Japan before returning to Houston. Bernie and Phyllis traveled worldwide to locations such as Singapore, France and India to name a few. Bernie also enjoyed spending time with his extended family and friends and cheering on his beloved Aggies football team. His life has been blessed and full of fun and love, although too short for his family and loved ones.
Bernie was predeceased by his parents Anna & Dave Berman and his brother Morton (Marty) Berman He is survived by his wife Phyllis Bumar Berman, his daughter Cynthia Riddle, her husband John, his son Mark and his wife Rocio Lilliana , his sister Susie Abramson, sister-in-law Ruthe Berman, four grandchildren; Ian Riddle, Garret, Emily & Sam Berman. Bernie is also survived by his extended family of cousins, nieces nephews and dear friends whom he loved very much.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of his favorite charities: the Ronald Brochstein Early Childhood Fund at Temple Emanu El in Houston, TX, Toys for Tots or the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
