Obituary of William Edward Coston

Bill was born October 19, 1928 in Brady Texas. He graduated from Lamar High School in Houston then from Texas A&M College, Class ’49, as a civil engineer. Bill was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division (Army) splitting his time at A&M.

He married Irma Lee Williams on December 26, 1949. Bill and Irma moved to Galveston after graduation and then La Marque where Bill worked for the Corps of Engineers. The family moved to Houston in 1962 where Bill worked at Fluor Daniel until his retirement in 1994. Bill held various positions from engineer to project manager to vice president. His work took him to travel throughout the United States, China, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Africa, Australia and Algeria. The family lived in England between 1976 and 1978. After retirement, Bill also did consulting work.

Bill was a fisherman, hunter and rockhound. He spent his time fishing in Galveston and Lake Livingston. He also traveled to Alaska to catch salmon and halibut. He made some of his own lures and tackle. He hunted in Blanco, Texas for 10 years with fellow Fluor employees. He traveled to west Texas looking for rocks. He also made jewelry from some of the rocks with friend O. G. Broom.

Bill is survived by his daughter Carol, his son Bill Jr. and 4 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Mildred, wife Irma and daughter Diane and his brother John.
