VISITATION: Family will receive friends at Comanche Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.

James “Jim” Tate Roberts, age 95, passed away on June 3, 2020, in Stephenville, Texas.

He was born on October 28, 1924, in Comanche County, Texas, to James Carl and Minnie Ola (Tate) Roberts. Jim was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Navy in the Pacific theater. On January 2, 1946, he was united in marriage to Betty Lou Perkins in Moran, Texas. She preceded him in death on November 16, 2018. Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a hospital administrator, teacher, and payroll manager for Armstrong & Ryan on the Proctor Dam project. He owned and operated Heartland Life Insurance Co., Heartland Funerals, Heartland Fire & Casualty Ins., and served as CEO, Treasurer, and Secretary Treasurer of Comanche County Telephone Company during its biggest expansion. He assisted in forming Oakwood Cemetery Association and served as the Association’s President. Jim was a member of First Baptist Church of Comanche and a member of Hope Lodge #481.

He is survived by his son, Mike Roberts and wife Mary of Proctor; daughter, Cindy Rhodes and husband Bill of Proctor; sister, Betty Ruth Carruth of Colorado; grandchildren: Maclaine and Brian Coles, Jacey and Elliott Gray, Jill and Ryan Gay, and Bill and Meena Rhodes; great-grandchildren: Phaedra and Kahlan Coles, Wyatt and Morgan Gay, and Paul Rhodes; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by son, Pat Roberts, parents, Carl and Minnie Roberts; and brothers, Dick Roberts and Harold Roberts.
