William "Bill" Clarke III '67 June 3, 2020 9:06 AM updated: June 3, 2020 9:10 AM

William Henry Clarke III
January 16, 1945 - May 7, 2020

William Henry Clarke III (Bill), 75, of Moscow, Texas, passed away on May 7, 2020, at his home with family by his side.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, May 11, 2020, at Cochran Funeral Home with Brother Lesly Wilkinson and Nick Nickelson officiating. Visitation will be immediately before the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at the Wright Cemetery in Onalaska.

Bill was born in Houston, Texas to W. H. Clarke Jr. and Jessie Melba (‘Sis’ Wright) Clarke.  He attended school in Houston but his best days were the holidays, weekends and summers spent in Onalaska or Moscow where he swam with his cousins in Kickapoo and Rocky creeks and rode horses with his cousin, Jimmy Wright.  Bill graduated from Milby High School and then, inspired by his uncle Bob Wright (Aggie ’55), enrolled in Texas A&M as a member of the Aggie Corps of Cadets.  Assigned to Company B-3, he met and made some of the very best friends any man could ask for.  The “Magnificent 7”, Class of  ’67, include Nick Nickelson,, Daryl Ray, Carl Richardson, Lawrence Wyatt, Samuel Reeves and the late Earl Hammit and Victor Schmidt. The special relationship and loyalty with this group of men is a brotherhood bond that continued through Bill’s very last breath on this earthly home.  After earning his degree at A&M, Bill served his country in the Army and is a veteran of the Vietnam War.  As soon as he could, Bill returned to Polk County to make his home in Moscow where he and his brothers began a construction company that subcontracted jobs for TxDot and several building sites in the area. Though Bill’s gentle, kind hearted spirit will be missed on this earth, there is no replacement for the peace in knowing his salvation was determined.  Words cannot express the family’s gratitude for the amazing compassion and professional care given to Bill by Rachel, Eddie Mae, and Charlotte of Kindred Hospice.

He is survived by his brother, Monroe Clarke of Moscow; brother, David Clarke of Moscow; sister, Penny Evans of Moscow; brother, Jerry Clarke of Lufkin; brother, Mark Clarke of Moscow; nieces and nephews, Brian Barnes of Nacogdoches, Homer Barnes of Moscow, Josh Clarke of Moscow, Jerri Kay Boyd of Lufkin, Jay Clarke of Moscow, David Evans III of Corrigan, and Ondey Clarke of Lufkin; along with a host of numerous other family and friends.

Pallbearers: Homer Barnes, David Evans, Josh Clarke, Jay Clarke, Brandon Boyd, W.R. Baker, Bruce Blau, Robert Miller, Jimmy Wright, Steve Wright

Honorary Pallbearers: Nick Nickelson, Larry Wyatt, Daryl Ray, Carl Richardson, Sam Reeves
