Dr. Thomas A. Halling '70
September 2, 1947 - April 24, 2020
On April 24, 2020, Dr. Thomas Arthur Halling went to be with Our Heavenly Father. He was 72 years old.
Tom was born in Bryan, Texas, and was raised in the Oak Forest neighborhood of Houston where he graduated from Waltrip High School. He went on to get his Petroleum Engineering degree from Texas A&M (class of '70). After working for Texaco for four years he went to medical school and became a family practice physician. Tom was one of three family practice doctors in Hallettsville from 1979 through 1983 at a time when small town doctors delivered babies which he accepted Kolaches as payment from time to time. Tom went back to medical school to specialize in anesthesiology, and did residencies and practiced anesthesiology in Arizona, Colorado, Mississippi, Missouri and Texas. During this time Tom graduated from Air Force Reserve Officer Training School and served in the Air Force Reserve for 10 years as a general's aid. His final workplace was Huntsville Memorial Hospital in Huntsville, Texas, where he worked for 15 years. He retired from medical practice three years ago and moved back to his beloved ranch outside of Hallettsville. Tom was an engaging conversationalist with a great sense of humor. He could fix almost anything and was quite the history buff. Tom enjoyed travelling and he and his wife and family visited places all over the world.
Dr. Halling is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie, their four children: Derek and wife Jennifer, Sheri and husband Olivier, Sarah and husband Russell, and Jackie and husband Adam; eleven grandchildren, Sister Patti and husband TP, niece Julie and husband Rusty and nephew JK and wife Nicole. Family and friends spent many happy times with Tom and Debbie at their ranch.
Tom lived his last four years battling stage IV Renal Cell Cancer and received wonderful care from Baylor College of Medicine Medical Center in Houston.
