Stephen John Lazzaro
NOVEMBER 14, 1950 – JANUARY 11, 2020
Stephen John Lazzaro, 69, devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Saturday, January 11, 2020. He bore the struggles of diabetes and heart disease with a quiet, stubborn bravery and he fought valiantly.
He was born November 14, 1950 in Houston, Texas to parents Camilla Boss and John Lazzaro. After graduating from St. Thomas High School, he joined the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets and became a proud member of the Ross Volunteers. Later, he graduated Jump School as a member of the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne, where he would meet the love of his life and give her his heart—but refuse to salute her even though she outranked him. With a fierce loyalty, he dedicated his life to his beloved family, working hard to ensure their success. He viewed life as a seasoned gambler by playing the game rather than the cards. Through every high and low he was dealt, he remained steadfast to his principles and guided his loved ones to make paramount their own character and values. With an insatiable passion for cooking, Stephen reveled in the family’s tradition of gathering annually to make some of the best Italian sausage around. The crown of his legacy and one of his proudest moments was welcoming his beautiful granddaughter, Sophia Rei Lazzaro, into this world.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, John and Camilla Lazzaro; his brother, Michael James Lazzaro, who passed away in January 2019; his Nana and PawPaw, Rosie and Steve Boss; his Lazzaro grandparents, Anna and John; his Godparents, Nancy and Tony Boss; his Boss and Lazzaro aunts and uncles; and cousins, Camilla Salvaggio and Rudy Miculka. He is survived by his dear wife, Marita; his daughter, Marie, and her husband, Nigel; his son, Nicholas, and his wife, Jane; his daughter, Christine; his sister, Virginia Moore, and her husband, Don; his nephew, John Moore, and his wife, Kimberlee; his nephew and Godson, Frank Moore, and his wife, Summer; his Boss and Lazzaro cousins; his Goddaughter, Jessica Visintainer; his Godson, Stephen Baranoski; his sister-in-law, Madelon Baranoski, and her husband Robert; his brother-in-law, Ferdi Visintainer, and his wife, Mary; his brother-in-law, Paul Visintainer, and his wife, Beth; his sister-in-law, Mariann Miller, and her husband, Tony; and his many Visintainer nieces and nephews.
We will welcome all family and friends who have known Stephen to join us as we celebrate him on Saturday, January 18th at Forest Park East Cemetery, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, TX. The 20 Club will lead The Rosary at 17:00, immediately following the Visitation. Deacon Louis Provenzano will follow with the Celebration of Life as we gather to honor Stephen’s memory. Remember, “leave the guns, take the cannoli.”
