Albert, a retired Dallas business executive and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on April 19, 2020, at home, in Colleyville, TX.
He was born July 21, 1939, in Palestine, TX, to L.T. and Elsie (Jones) Gallatin Ward. Albert grew up in Palestine and after graduation from Palestine High School, he married the love of his life, Freda Sue Kale, a marriage that lasted 64 years, until his passing. He left Palestine to attend Texas A&M, was a member of the Corps of Cadets and graduated with a degree in Mathematics, in 1961. He was currently serving on the Texas A&M External Advisory and Development Council for the College of Science.
After graduation, he and Freda moved, with their two boys, Coy and Kale, to Downey, CA, for work. They moved back to Texas two years later, settled in Grand Prairie and he worked as an analyst for LTV Corporation and Recognition Equipment. In 1966 he joined Lone Star Gas Company, which became a subsidiary of ENSERCH Corporation, a diversified energy company. While at ENSERCH, Albert obtained his Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington. He became the Treasurer of ENSERCH Corporation in 1970 at age 31, a position that he held for 26 years, also becoming Vice President during his tenure. He retired in 1997 after 31 years of service. He traveled extensively during his days at ENSERCH. On several occasions, Freda would accompany him to Saudi Arabia, New York and London, to complete financial transactions with many of the world’s largest banks. Several of these trips were on the Concorde Jet. The commemorative plaques from these transactions will be cherished by his family in memory of his ability to always bring people together in an honest and straightforward way. Albert exemplified the utmost integrity, never seeking the spotlight for himself, but lifted up those around him and was always willing to lend a hand to those less fortunate.
Albert and Freda raised their two boys, Coy and Kale, in Grand Prairie, where they lived for 47 years. Albert was a deacon at First Baptist Church of Grand Prairie, where he was active in Sunday School and the Personnel and Finance Committees. He also served on the Grand Prairie Planning and Zoning Commission and was elected to the Board of Directors at Texas Commerce Bank, Los Colinas. He was a longstanding member of the Financial Executive Institute and a descendant of Albert Gallatin, who fought in the Battle of San Jacinto.
He enjoyed many activities with his grandchildren, attending every event he and Freda could make, including birthdays, holidays, sporting events, high school and college graduations. He was very instrumental in shaping their lives through walking the path he had learned long ago, one that was righteous and straight.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest grandson, Albert Kale Gallatin of Colleyville, TX. He is survived by his wife, Freda, of 64 years; 2 sons, Coy (Danette) Gallatin of Houston, TX and Kale (Carroll) Gallatin of Lewisville, TX; 4 grandchildren, Madeleine Brady of Tulsa, OK, Elizabeth Gallatin of Houston, TX, Kate (Tye) Bankhead of Dallas, TX and Thomas (Emily) Gallatin of Richardson, TX; 1 great grandchild, Ava Brady of Tulsa, OK. He is also survived by his brother, Thom (Sheila) Gallatin of Garland, TX and their children and grandchildren.
Albert will be missed, by his wife Freda, more than all others, but he left a lasting legacy of how to live for his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all who knew him.
