William Neal Lipe
June 7, 1934 - April 7, 2020

William Neal Lipe, age 85, died on April 7, 2020. From his birth in Los Fresnos, Texas, to his death, he worked tirelessly to serve his Lord, provide for his family, and work with nature—in fruit, vegetable, grape and wine research. Bill attended Texas A&M and completed BS and MS degrees in horticulture. In College Station he met and married Jean Adams, and the couple moved to California where Bill completed his PhD in Plant Physiology at the University of California at Davis. From there, they moved to the Dominican Republic for a Texas A&M project through the Agency for International Development. Bill served as a research scientist for Texas A&M Experiment Station in Lubbock from 1970-1995. There Bill was pivotal in the development of the High Plains Apellation and in proving Texas as a world class wine production state. He retired to South Texas and continued to experiment on his citrus farm.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Adams Lipe of Plano; daughter, B. J. Swenson and husband Brian and their son Will of El Campo; son, David Neal Lipe and wife Connie and their sons, Atticus, Nathaniel and Sebastian of Plano; and daughter Linda Lipe and her son Jackson Dyas of Lakeville, Minnesota.

William was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Edgar, George, and John Lipe and sister Dorris Pierce.

Due to these uncertain times, a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations in memory of Bill may be made to Habitat for Humanity or the charity of one’s choice.
