James Glen Grant
July 3, 1956 - April 8, 2020

James Glen Grant, Jr. was born July 3, 1956 in Houston, Texas to James Glen Grant, Sr. and Jessie Engdohl Grant. Following a lengthy illness, Glen passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by the love of his family on April 8, 2020.
Glen is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Dana Seidel Grant of Huntsville, Texas; his son, James (Jimmy) Franklin Grant of Richmond, Texas; mother, Jessie Grant of Huntsville, Texas; father-in-law, Franklin Seidel of Huntsville, Texas; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Glen grew up in Houston, Texas and graduated from Waltrip High School in 1974. He furthered his education at Texas A&M University and in 1978, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science. Glen spent many of his career years in the livestock animal feed business. He was the proud owner of several feed stores in the Houston area. Later, he served as Executive Director at the Senior Center of Walker County, an influential service for the community’s Meals on Wheels program.

Glen’s commitment to service greatly impacted the Huntsville community. He spent many years as troop mentor to his 2 sons as well as so many young men in scouting. His leadership and voice will forever be with the youth under his mentoring in Cub Scout Pack 96, Boy Scout Troop 114 and Scout Venturing Crew 98. One of his greatest enjoyments in scouting was being able to travel with young men out of Walker County to see the great places in America.

He was a devoted member at First United Methodist Church - Huntsville and served in event meal preparations and mission trips. Glen had such enjoyment in seeing people come together in fellowship around sharing a meal during Wednesday Night Live and other church events. Prior to his health failing, another of his passions were serving people impacted by disasters on church mission trips. He found fulfillment in helping people in need of reconstructing their homes and being a witness to God’s grace through his talents.

Several year ago, Glen’s wife, Dana convinced him to join her in the hobby of beekeeping. He quickly became knowledgeable about caring for bees and harvesting honey. He was an active member of the Walker County Beekeepers Association and thoroughly enjoyed introducing others to this interesting hobby.
Glen’s naturally kind-heart and loving personality lightened the hearts of his family and those who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

Glen is now joined in Heaven with his son, Joseph “Joe” Lamar Grant; father, James Glen Sr.; and mother-in-law, Marylyn Seidel.

A private graveside service will be held on Monday, April 13, 2020, 2 pm at Brooke Cemetery, Huntsville, Texas.

A Celebration of Life service will be arranged as soon as one can be held.
