Roll Call Tribute

Phyllis Vincent '79 April 3, 2020 1:33 PM updated: April 3, 2020 1:37 PM

Phyllis Kay Vincent, of Terrell, passed away peacefully on the evening of March 30, 2020 with her family at her side. She was born Dec. 1, 1956 to A. Morgan and Doris Nell Vincent, both of whom preceded her in death.

Phyllis grew up in Fort Worth and graduated from Eastern Hills High School. She attended Texas A&M University where she received her bachelor’s degree in business management and master of business administration. This allowed her to be the best manager she could be at every company she worked with.

Phyllis was very proud of her time working for Home Depot, which had less than 100 stores when she started. She worked a variety of roles including District HR Manager, Assistant Store Manager, and Department Supervisor, where her reputation of always going above and beyond for customers and team associates ensured success. She spent time at various Home Depot locations around the DFW metroplex over the years, where her attention to detail, presentation, and team building helped each location to achieve its goals. When Buccee’s opened in Terrell, Phyllis was fascinated with the company’s culture and took the opportunity to continue to grow her career in her hometown, eventually becoming the General Manager. She was a welcome and friendly face to the community shoppers as well as the countless travelers who stopped in.

When not working, Phyllis enjoyed her home in the country, her many adventures antiquing, and her love of breeding and raising top performance horses. Her horses took her all across the state and country, reaching top levels in competition, which ultimately extended to a shared passion with her children showing and competing on horseback. She was a caring and devoted mother whose love for her children, Leah and Noah, was immeasurable. Phyllis consistently took charge as “show mom” and “team mom”, extending her love to all others involved. She was a strong, fierce and independent woman who never expected others to do what she wasn’t willing to do herself. Her beautiful spirit and generous heart will be missed by all who knew her.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Leah Ward and fiancé, Josh Stevens of Georgetown, KY; son, Noah Ward and wife, Haley Ward, of Garland, TX; sister, Teresa Nixon of Frisco, TX as well as other extended family and many friends.

The family will have a gathering to share memories of Phyllis from 4:00pm to 8:00pm, Friday, April 3, 2020 at Max Slayton Funerals and Cremations. Guests will be limited to 10 at a time and we ask you limit your visit to allow for others to be able to share condolences with her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Phyllis may be made to Rein in Cancer at www.reinincancer.com or Gateway for Cancer Research at https://www.cancercenter.com/community/giving-back/gateway-for-cancer-research
