Dick Haynes, 92, of Carthage, TX, passed away on Tuesday morning, March 17, 2020, in Lufkin, TX. Edwin Dick Haynes was born on June 15, 1927, in Avery, Red River County, TX to the late Howard Edwin and Naomi Frances Lemon Haynes. He graduated from Elysian Fields High School with the class of 1944. He attended East Texas Baptist College and Texas A&M University. Dick married the love of his life, Eva Rita Johnson on July 7, 1949, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 6, 2011, after 62 years of marriage. Mr. Haynes enjoyed a career in the oil field business, retiring from Pennzoil in 1986. He also worked with livestock throughout his life and served as Panola County Commissioner with Precinct 3 from 1989-1996. In his younger years, he enjoyed rodeo where he competed in tie down calf roping and later served for many years as the Chairman of the Panola County PRCA Rodeo. Dick loved his family dearly and was the world’s greatest Dad. He moved to Carthage in 1968, from Elysian Fields and was a member of Central Baptist Church in Carthage. He was also a member of the Waskom Masonic Lodge, having received his 70 year pin. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; wife; grandson, Clint Hammons who passed away on June 22, 2008; and his sister, Betty Cherry.

Survivors include his son, Dr. Clarence Doyle Haynes and wife Rhonda of Lufkin; daughters, Rita Frances Morrow of Carthage and Rhonda Sue Hammons and husband Dr. William “Bill” Hammons of Carthage; special friend, Jana Bounds of Linden; brother-in-law, Joe Rex Johnson and wife Pat of Louisiana; adopted daughter, Betty Twomey and husband Rob; grandchildren Kristi Morrow, Dillon Morrow and wife Melissa, Rachel Hammons, and J.D. Twomey and wife Bridget; and great-grandchildren, Justin Morrow, Sean Clayton, Hailey Morrow, Cameron Morrow, Lexi Morrow, Aubree Bromley, Corey, Randal, Sarah Beth Twomey, Khaki Jo Twomey, Parker Twomey, and Kyle Twomey. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends also survive Mr. Haynes.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2020, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Michael Roberts officiating. Interment with Masonic Rites will follow at Restland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Brian Monroe, J.D. Twomey, Justin Morrow, Sean Clayton, Mike Cherry, and David Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are Randy Stone, Dennis Whatley, and Cameron Morrow.
