Roll Call Tribute

James (Jim) Curtis Winters passed away peacefully at the Mike Conley Hospice House in Clermont, FL on March 10, 2020. He was born on December 20, 1948 in Douglas, WY to Esther (Packard) Winters and Wayne Potter Winters, who promptly introduced him in the town newspaper as “a new apprentice printer.”

He graduated from Durango High School in 1966, Fort Lewis College in 1970 with his bachelor’s degree, and earned his PhD from Texas A&M University in 1978. Jim worked as a chemist in a variety of capacities, eventually specializing in paper chemistry for Georgia-Kaelin in New Jersey, Weyerhauser in Seattle, and Plasmine Technologies in Pensacola, before starting his own web hosting business, Technology Lighthouse Incorporated. Although life took him far from his beloved mountains, he maintained a love for the outdoors and was active as an adult leader in the Boy Scouts of America for nearly 20 years.

Jim was raised Presbyterian but joined the Episcopal Church in the 1970s and stayed active in it since, most recently at Holy Cross for 16 years, where he sang in the choir for the last ten years. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marcella (Marcy) Roman Winters, his brother Carl (Beverly) Winters, sons Joseph (Jessica), William (Tina), and Timothy (Michelle), as well as three granddaughters, Alexandria, Emma, and Margaret, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The funeral service will be held at Holy Cross Episcopal Church, 7979 N. Ninth Ave, Pensacola, FL, on April 4th at 2:00 PM.
