Roll Call Tribute

William "Bill" Bradbury '72 March 6, 2020 9:42 AM updated: March 6, 2020 9:47 AM

Memorial services for William "Bill" Bradbury, 71, of Giddings, are pending at this time.

William Edward Bradbury passed away peacefully in his home March 1, 2020 with his loving wife by his side.

William or more commonly referred to as “Bill” was born December 1, 1948 to Joseph and Alda Stephens Bradbury in Columbus, Ohio. As an Air Force brat, he lived all over the country including Puerto Rico. Actively involved in many sports, he was part of the Glasgow Montana Wrestling team and served as football captain at Eastwood High in El Paso, TX. He
graduated from Oliver Wendell Holmes High School in San Antonio in 1966.

He initially went to Texas A&M University at College Station to study veterinary sciences. He eventually chose to major in sociology graduating in 1972. He was a lifelong Aggie fan and especially proud when his middle daughter, Anne, graduated in 2008 from his Alma Mater. Gig ‘em!

Soon after, he settled down in Giddings to begin work at the Giddings State School. He ended up serving as a coordinator of volunteer services and retired after 42 years of service. He also met and married the love of his life, Jody Koslan. He proposed to Jody on the piece of land that their future home would be built. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple and married for almost 42 years.

Bill enjoyed playing the acoustic guitar and singing and writing his own lyrics. He had a special place in his heart for four legged friends and most recently even felines after much persistence from his wife Jody. He had a talent of making everyone laugh with his quick wit and sense of humor. To know him was to love him. Most of all, he loved his 3 daughters: Ruth, Anne, and Kate. He cherished them, supported them, loved them and did everything for “all my girls.”

Although a modest man, he sought to serve by example as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He has left a void in our lives and will be deeply missed by so many. Bill or “Mr. Bradbury” touched the lives of so many with his huge heart and gentle smile. We carry along his eternal optimism, ability to find humor in everything, and a gentle kindness allowing him to make everyone feel special.

He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Bradbury, mother, Alda Bradbury, two brothers, Thomas and Richard, mother-in-law, Ruth Koslan and father-in-law, Albert Koslan.

He is survived by his wife, Jody Koslan Bradbury of Giddings, daughter, Ruth Pelzel and husband, Colby of Midland, daughter, Anne Bradbury and fiancé, T.K. Bradley of Bastrop, daughter, Kate Bradbury and significant other, Dominick Nervi of Austin; grandchildren, Townes, Scout, and Guy Pelzel of Midland and Sebastian Nervi of Austin; sister, Stormy Harvey and husband, Dr. Robert Harvey of Victoria; brother, Joe Bradbury and wife, Nancy of Minnesota, and sister-in-law, Mary Koslan of Giddings as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

'Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone'

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

W H Auden
