It was with great sorrow and deep sadness that we announce that John Walter Vogelsang, Jr. passed away peacefully on Monday, February 3, 2020 at the age of 70 surrounded by his loving family.
John was born February 17, 1949 in New Orleans, LA to John and Alma (Courtney) Vogelsang. The family moved to Houston in 1953 where he attended St. Anne’s Catholic School and St. Thomas High School (Class of 67). He then attended Texas A&M University (Class of 71) as part of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band of the Corps of Cadets. On July 14, 1978, he married his honey bunch, Lidia Martinez. They brought into this world their daughter, Courtney Vogelsang and their son, Nick Vogelsang.

John served 25 dedicated years of service as a Houston Police officer. He loved watching the Price Is Right, the Houston Astros, and Texas A&M Football. He loved his grandchildren and was teaching them how to say, “COWABUNGA DUDE”!

John is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lidia, and their beautiful family of two children, Courtney and Nick; daughter-in-law, Kathryn, and his three beautiful grandchildren, Adeline, Fitz, & Evelyn; sister, Jackie Vogelsang Cone. John is preceded in death by his parents, John & Alma, and his sister, Sandra Vogelsang Stoltz.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, February 6 with a Rosary at 7:30 PM at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home, 12555 S Kirkwood Rd, Stafford, Texas 77477. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 7 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 8200 Roos, Houston, Texas at 11:00 AM.
