Matthew M Luis, age 29, of Galveston, Texas passed away on Friday July 26, 2019. Matthew was born October 31, 1989 in Allentown, Pennsylvania to Cas Luis and Manny Luis.
Matt grew up in Kingwood Texas, attending Pines Montessori, Deerwood Elementary, Riverwood Middle and Kingwood High schools. He enjoyed his friends most of all and most of his activities centered around maximum socialization with them!
Matt swam for the Sandcreek Sea Lions for 7 summers and he attended, was confirmed and served as an acolyte at Good Shepherd Church. Not fond of practice, Matt never-the-less played tenor sax well and he played with the Kingwood High School Mighty Mustang Military Band throughout high school.
Matt’s greatest love was the outdoors which was much fulfilled by Scouting during which he participated in “high adventures” and was led by excellent mentors in Troop 839. Selected to attend BSA National Basic & Advanced Leadership Courses and supported in achieving Eagle Scout rank, these opportunities helped shape Matt’s decision to pursue a degree in Maritime at Texas A & M Maritime Academy in Galveston. Matt literally sailed the world, during summer cruises, and graduated in Dec. 2013. Matt then completed his licensing exams and sailed in the Gulf in gas & oil exploration.
Matt also hung out with and was adored by his family. He loved extended family gatherings and visits with his grandparents. Matt, Manny & Cas had some great travels together; Manny always assuring that he & Matt were hang gliding, parasailing or participating in some other adventure..often including Matt’s friends.
Matt is survived by; mother Cas Luis; aunts and uncles; Jody Smith (godmother), Barbara Garafalo and Ann & Steve Boglarski, first cousins Stephen Boglarski (godfather) & Wendy Zucca as well as great aunts Esther, Florence & Barbara and other cousins Sarah, Brian, Denise, Charlene, Cindy, Lauren, Graham, J.P. & Bill.
Matt was preceded in death by; father Manny Luis; grandmother Priscilla Luis, grandmother Janet B. Churchill, grandfather Robert Campbell Smith, and grandfather Manuel Luis & sept Grandfather Russ Churchill.
