COKER, Judge Billy Floyd (Bill) Judge Billy Floyd (Bill) Coker was born in Baytown, Texas, on October 5,1929, and died in Dallas, Texas, on January 30, 2020 at age 90. His parents were Augustus Cheney Coker and Alma Thornal Coker. He graduated from Goose Creek High School and earned his B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University, class of 1951, as a member of the fighting Texas Aggie Band. He earned his Juris Doctor from SMU Dedman School of Law. Judge Coker was a Registered Professional Engineer for 15 years at RCA, Texas Instruments and Varo. He then became a lawyer and County Court at Law and State District Judge in Dallas County. During his judicial tenure he served as an administrative judge, president of the Texas County Court at Law Judges Association and a founding member of the Dispute Mediation Services of Dallas. He was also a member of the Texas Commission on Sentencing Practices and Procedures and the Dallas and State Bar Associations. Judge Coker and his wife Betty were inspired by the students in the Leadership Cadet Corps at TC Marsh Preparatory Academy whose goal was to build a military museum on campus. Bill and Betty helped them achieve their goal and the TC Marsh Military Museum was completed on the school campus in 2012. Judge Coker was a member of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church where he was a trustee and elder. Judge Coker is survived by his wife of 69 years, Betty Akagi Coker, his sons, Kyle W. Coker, MD, (Diane) of Laguna Niguel, CA, and Cheney G. Coker (Kelly) of Carrollton, TX, his three grandchildren Christopher C. Coker (Christine) of Oceanside, CA, Rebecca A. Coker Chung (Jeffrey) of Lake Forest, CA, Cameron K. Coker of San Antonio, and his three great grandchildren, Charles and Conrad Coker and Calvin Chung. Funeral services will be at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church at 9800 Preston Road, Dallas, at 12:30 PM on Friday, February 7, 2020. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Presbyterian Village North Foundation, 8600 Skyline Drive, Dallas, TX 75243. Inurnment will be at a later date at the church's Columbarium.
