COL. JOHN'S OBITUARY
U.S. Veteran
USAF Retired Colonel John Stanley Kubin, 82 of Bulverde Texas, went to be with our Heavenly Father unexpectedly after complications arose post-surgery performed on his heart, Saturday, January 25th, 2020 in San Antonio, Tx.

Johnny was born in Crosby, Texas on October 21, 1937. He attended Crosby High School, where he met the love of his life, Nettie Fay Dahlquist. Raised on a family farm, “in a small town without a car” as he would say he was from, he always dreamed of flying. His passion to join the military lead him to Texas A&M University, where he joined the Corps of Cadets. During his senior year he married his high school sweetheart, Nettie Fay. After graduation, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force (USAF) and entered pilot training. Johnny immediately excelled as a pilot, and later aeronautical engineer, and quickly climbed through the ranks. A Decorated Vietnam Veteran, he flew countless combat missions all over the world. His wife Fay, “The Colonel at Home” nurtured and cared for their 8 children while he was away, never knowing if or sometimes when he may return. John and Fay’s love for each other their Heavenly Father, Lord and Savior, and their children held them together, through the highs and lows of the military life. John served 27 years as a pilot, instructor, manager and Commander. He also spent time at Texas Tech University as a professor of Aeronautical Engineering and head of the ROTC program.

After retiring as full Colonel, he spent another 13 ½ years in the defense industry as an Engineering Project Manager of the Advanced Technology Programs. After retiring again, John and Fay moved to the Hill Country where he served as President of St. Ferdinand Parish Council as well as assisting his wife and two of his grandsons in the church choir. He remained unconditionally devoted to his wife, family, country and above all his Heavenly Father until he was called home to be with Him.

John is preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Rose Kubin, brother Daniel Kubin, sisters, Dorothy Janacek, Rita Gregory, Margaret Cutbirth, Bernadette Eilers, sons Mark Patrick Kubin, Ty Mathew Kubin, and daughter Kelly Ann Kubin and those that served beside him during his career in the military.

He is survived by his amazing wife of 62 years, Nettie Fay Kubin, Daughter Tammy Feliece Jupe, Sons: Earl (Dawn) Kubin, John P. Kubin, Troy (Jackie) Kubin, Brian (Robyn Bailey) Kubin, sister Mary Ann Fischer, numerous of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. Until we meet again.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday, January 31, 2020 at Crofts – Crow Funeral Home in Blanco with the Rosary to begin at 7:00. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated by Msgr Thomas P. Sandi and Fr. Brion Zarsky at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 1, 2020 at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, 25 Main St., Blanco, TX 78606. Burial will take place at 2:15 Monday, February 3, 2020 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery,1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, 78209.
