Larry Glenz
August 18, 1954 - January 1, 2020

Larry Wayne Glenz fought a six-year battle with brain cancer and peacefully went to the Lord on January
1, 2020. Born August 18, 1954 to Raymond and Elene Glenz, he was born and raised in Brenham, Texas
and attended Brenham High School. Larry graduated from Texas A&M University in 1976 receiving a
Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science.

Larry met Diana (Mutz) Hodde at a dance at Burton Hall, where he fell in love with her the moment he
placed his cowboy hat on her head and asked her to dance. They were married on March 5, 1983, and
had three daughters, Genna, Meghan and Whitney. His girls were his pride and joy, and he always joked
he only had three daughters, because he didn't want four or five. He was always involved in his
daughters' 4-H projects- including showing chickens and rabbits at the Washington County Fair and
Houston Livestock Show, softball tournaments, FCCLA events, and school. One of his favorite memories
was watching his girls win Grand Champion Broilers at the Houston Livestock Show in 2003.

Larry worked at Sealy Mattress in Brenham for 28 years, before retiring in April 2015. Sealy staff became
his second family, as his years there were filled with lots of laughter. Sealy held a special place in his
heart. Prior to working at Sealy, Larry worked for General Production and Texas National Bank.

In between coaching softball, raising chickens and work at Sealy Mattress, Larry found time to fix and re­
finish furniture Mutz found at estate sales or antique shows, and made sure the house and yard always
looked its best. Larry took great pride in his yard, making sure it was mowed often and the right way. His
girls tried to help with the yard, but after pouring gasoline and diesel mixture into a gasoline only
mower, and putting the blade on the lowest setting and "mowing the dirt", Larry took the yard work
upon himself to complete.

Larry was also involved in the Washington County Fair, where he served on the Livestock Judging
Committee, and played a big role in all three of his girls' fair projects. It didn't matter if it was a pen of
chickens, or a pen of rabbits, Larry always made sure his girls knew the importance of hard work and
dedication. The girls spent many hours cleaning the chicken pen, until it was just right and practicing
holding their birds the "right way".

Larry's faith could move mountains, and no matter what he faced in life, he knew that God's hand was in
the midst of it all. Larry was a very active member of St. John's United Church of Christ, where he served
on the church council and finance committee.

After Larry's diagnosis, the family became very involved in the Dr. Marnie Rose Foundation to help raise
awareness and funding to support brain cancer research. Larry and his family attended the annual 5K
Run for the Rose race for six years and helped raise over $39,000 for brain cancer research.

Throughout Larry's cancer journey, he was surrounded by friends and family, and an incredible medical
team from the Cancer Clinic. The love from the staff, nurses, and Dr. Erin Fleener filled the last six years
with so much love. Larry thought the world of Dr. Fleener, and each appointment always ended with a
smile, and a big hug. Larry and his family jokingly called Dr. Fleener the fourth Glenz sister, and all jokes
aside, Larry truly felt that way.

While his girls were his pride and joy in the beginning years, once grandbabies arrived, that title was
then given to Luke, Hallie, Reid and Wyatt. While Larry wanted to be called "Grandpa", Luke had a different plan and continued to call him "PawPaw", even after they tried many times to correct him. PawPaw stuck, and Larry was the best PawPaw around!

Larry is survived by his wife, Diana Glenz, his daughters, son-in-laws, and grandkids, Chad and Genna,
Luke and Hallie Lechler; Ross and Meghan, Reid and Wyatt Windham; and Whitney Glenz. He is also
survived by his mother, Elene Glenz, his brother in law and sister David and Carol Husfeld, his brother
Donald Glenz, his brother in law and sister in law Gary and Joan Goebel, brother in law and sister in law
Charles and Jodell Hodde, and brother in law and sister in law Rodney and Jill Hodde. He is also survived
by numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father,
Raymond Glenz, and his father in law and mother in law Wilton "Pop" and Janice Hodde.

At Larry's request, serving as pallbearers, Garrison Goebel, Sam Hodde, Brian Peterson, Roger
Seilheimer, Heath Kemper, Arthur Rodiek, Bob Schubert, and Doug Dornak. Serving as honorary pallbearers, Brad Beach and the late Ray Rodenbeck.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you donate to a Washington County Fair scholarship in honor of
Larry Glenz, St. John's United Church of Christ in Burton, or Brazos Valley Hospice. Donations towards
the scholarship can be made to Burton State Bank, attention "Glenz Scholarship".

Larry thought the world of friends and family who loved and supported him throughout his cancer
journey, and would be honored if you wore your BTHO Brain Cancer shirt or in the spirit of his beloved
Aggies something maroon to help celebrate his life.

Visitation will be Friday, January 3rd, from 4:30 pm- 7:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Celebration of
life will be Saturday, January 4th at 10:00 am at St. John's United Church of Christ, Burton. Burial to
follow at church cemetery.
