William Charles "Bill" Scott
1949 - 2019
William Charles “Bill” Scott, 70, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on December 16, 2019 in Dallas, Texas.
Bill was born in Quanah, Texas to Charlene Eakin and Durwood Scott on August 6, 1949. His formative years were spent in Quanah, where he attended grade school and went on to graduate from Quanah High School in 1967. That fall, Bill enrolled at Texas A&M University – a decision that would greatly impact the rest of his life. In 1971, he graduated with a degree in Animal Science and in 1974 went to work for Fort Dodge Animal Health – where he remained for 34 years. His life was changed forever when he met the woman who would become his better half, Debbie Halfmann. After dating for 6 weeks, Bill knew she was the only woman who would put up with him and he quickly proposed. They were married six months later on September 4th, 1976 in Wall, Texas. Together, they were blessed to have two children – his “baby daughter” Allison and beloved son, Ty. He was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church and former chairman of the Texas A&M College of Agriculture Development Council.
To know Bill, or BC, was to love him. A larger than life character who was equally happy in the stands at an Aggie football game or working all day at the ranch in Hardeman County, he found great joy in his friends that were like family – Kevin Johnson and Jerry Kubala. In the years after he retired, Bill and Debbie spent many weekends in the fall in College Station or traveling to cheer for the Aggies at stadiums throughout the southeast with the Sims, the Smiths and the Skinners. For Bill, his true loves were his family, his ranch and Texas A&M University.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Charlene Eakin, his father, Durwood Scott, and his sister, Virginia Messer. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Debbie; children Allison Smith and her husband Todd of Lockhart and Tyler Scott and his wife Candice of Irving; and his granddaughters Kennedy and Mattie Smith of Lockhart.
Visitation from 6:00 – 7:00 PM and Rosary 7:00 – 7:30 PM will be on Wednesday, December 18th, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 19th at Holy Family Catholic Church in Abilene, Texas, with Msgr. Frederick Nawarskas officiating. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be sent to the Texas A&M Foundation, 401 George Bush Dr., College Station, TX 77840. Please designate “In Memory of Bill Scott” in the memo line of the check.
