December 1, 1938 ~ December 8, 2019 (age 81)

Funeral Services for Vernon Holcomb, 81, of Pittsburg, will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Pittsburg with Reverend Joel Davis officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Holcomb passed away Sunday, December 8, 2019 at his residence.

Mr. Holcomb was born December 1, 1938 in the Holly Springs Community to Clarence Madison and Gladys Mae Roberts Holcomb.

He graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1956 and enrolled at Texas A&M University where he was in the Corps as a Cadet. After graduation from A&M in 1960 he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and served the nation for 22 years retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel, and loved to farm after his retirement and served as an usher and very active member of the First Baptist Church.

He was part of the original group that formed the Northeast Texas Rural Heritage Museum that saved and restored the Depot and Depot Warehouse. Vernon helped build the Museum’s Annex building in 1994, the Farmstead General Store and outbuildings in 1995 and the Ezekiel Building in 2002. He secured six Historical Markers out of the 26 in Camp County.

Mr. Holcomb is survived by his wife, Bette Gilliland Holcomb of Pittsburg; son, Jeffrey Holcomb and wife, Brandy of Shreveport, LA; daughter, Holly Bryant and husband, Joey of Plano, TX; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Pat Holcomb of Pittsburg; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Dwain Blount of Mt. Pleasant; five grandsons, Britian Holcomb, LeGrand Kirby V., Alex Kirby, Jackson Holcomb and Nick Bryant; two step-grandsons, Zack Bryant and Alex Bryant.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Madison and Gladys Mae Holcomb.

Pallbearers will be Britian Holcomb, LeGrand Kirby, Alex Kirby, Jackson Holcomb, Nick Bryant and Joey Bryant

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at the First Baptist Church in Pittsburg.

Family request donations be made to the Northeast Texas Rural Heritage Museum, 206 Mt. Pleasant Street, Pittsburg, Texas 75686.
