Col. Jim Moore
March 20, 1927 ~ December 1, 2019 (age 92)
James Turner Moore, 92, died on Sunday, December 1, 2019. He was born on March 20, 1927 in Greenville, Texas to Thomas Nall Moore and Frances L. Moore. Jim was a graduate of Sunset High School in Dallas. He received his Bachlor's of Science Degree at Texas A&M University and a Master's Degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He served 30 years in the United States Army retiring with the rank of Colonel. Colonel Moore served during WWII, Korean and Vietnam wars receiving a Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Silver Service Star; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; National Defense Service Medal w/ 1 Oak Leaf Cluster; United National Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal w/ 1 Oak Leaf Cluster; Bronze Star Medal; World War II Victory Medal; Army of Occupation Medal (Japan); Meritorious Service Medal w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster; Korean Service Medal; Meritorious Unit Commendation w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster;; Korean Armed Forces Honor Medal 1st Class; (Foreign Decoration); Vietnamese Order of Military Merit (Foreign Decoration); Legion of Merit w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster, which is the 2nd highest honor for service.
In 1949, Jim married Louise Turner. They were married 68 years before her death. Upon retirement from the U.S. Army, Jim moved his family to Austin, Texas to work for the State of Texas as the Director of Food and Nutrition for MHMR. Jim retired from the state of Texas and went to work as the Deputy Assistant Food Service Director at his beloved alma mater, Texas A&M.
Jim and Louise enjoyed supporting the Aggies any way they could. They traveled the country for many years following and cheering on the Aggie football team. When not cheering for the Aggies Jim enjoyed playing golf with his friends, his son and grandsons. He was a member of The Rotary Club of Bryan, Texas and The Aggie Quarterback Club. He was also a life-long member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Louise, parents Thomas Nall Moore , Frances Moore Polk and Lester Polk, and his brother Thomas Nall Moore Jr. He is survived by four children, Frances Hickey (German), Debbie (Billy) Steele, Leslie (Steve) Fox, Jimmy (Carol) Moore. Nine grandchildren, Will (Taylor) Brown, Craig (Amy) Brown and Cole Brown. Candice Brown (Bryan) Bowdish. Christopher (Lauren) Fox, Ryan (Maya) Fox. James T. Moore, III, Hannah Moore and Campbell Moore and 7 great grandchildren. His niece Victoria (Gary) Summers and their 3 children.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 4, from 5:00-8:00 at the Hillier Funeral Home, 2301 E. 29th Street, Bryan, Texas. There will be a graveside service at 11:00 am at the Aggie Field of Honor, 3800 Raymond Stotzer Pkwy, College Station.
