Weber, Bonnie
Bonnie Weber, beloved mother, sister, daughter, and best friend to so many, passed away peacefully at her home in November, 2019.
Bonnie Beall was born in Houston to Thyrza and William Beall, both of whom are now deceased. Bonnie married Dave Weber in 1982. They had two daughters; Julia, now a Major in the U.S. Marine Corps, currently stationed in California, and Maggie, a Ph.D. Chemist who works with Siemens in Tennessee. Bonnie and David divorced in 1999.
A native Houstonian, Bonnie earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M University, class of '77. She worked at the Houston Zoo before moving to Bryan, Texas to run Bonnie-Geary's Natural Foods, the first vegetarian restaurant in the area, a woman of many talents she also worked as a finish carpenter. Later, Bonnie taught at St. Michael's Academy and developed a highly-regarded course in ethics. After more than 12 years, Bonnie retired from teaching to focus on her work with wildlife conservation.
An enthusiastic musician, Bonnie played flute in the Brazos Valley Community Band. She was also active in Meet Up, the Texas and San Saba Wildlife Associations, Rio Brazos Audubon Society, local Episcopal churches, and the Aggie Silvers Basketball League. A free spirit and philanthropist, one of her favorite endeavors was helping to build a school in Malawi, Africa.
Bonnie spent the last few years as one of the "Turtle Mamas", raising native species of box turtles. A Master Naturalist, Bonnie turned her 30-acre property just outside of Bryan into a bird and wildlife sanctuary where native plants, trees, and grasses flourished.
Survivors include her beloved daughters, Maggie and Julia; and her three brothers, Bill Jr., Jon, and Robbie.
A Celebration to honor Bonnie's incredible life is being planned for the Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 30, 2019. For more information contact her daughter, Julia for details.
In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial donations in Bonnie's name be made to any of her favorite charities; the Nature Conservancy, National Public Radio (NPR), Habitat for Humanity, the Microloan Foundation (UK based – serves Malawi, Africa), or to any charity that reminds you of Bonnie.
