Jay Albert

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 4:30 PM in the Freedman-Levit Sanctuary at Congregation Beth Yeshurun, 4525 Beechnut Street, Houston, TX 77096.

A private graveside service will be held.

Jay Albert passed away peacefully on November 12, 2019 surrounded by his loving family in Houston, Texas, after a valiant ?ght against cancer. He will be dearly missed, as Jay was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Jay is preceded in death by his parents: Katherine and Louis Albert, brother and sister-in-law, Sidney and Sara Albert, and sister and brother-in-law, Cyrella and Chuck Hirsh. Jay leaves behind his loving wife, Marilyn Albert, their daughter, Julie Stein, and grandchildren, Justin, Mandy and Kyle Stein, great-grandson, Baraka John Stein; Layne Albert and wife Rhonda, and grandchildren Paige and Connor Albert. Jay is also survived by son-in-law, Ronnie Stein. Even though the family members live in di?erent parts of the United States and the world, they all revolved around Jay, whom they adored to the fullest and whom they considered to be the center of their universe.

Jay lived a full and rich life alongside the love of his life and wife of 62 years, Marilyn. Houston was their home base, but they traveled the globe and had marvelous adventures including South America, Egypt, China and the Baltics. They loved cruising, and Marilyn and Jay enjoyed travels with their many close friends and family. Their treasured vacations were chronicled in massive photo-books and scrapbooks that Jay assembled with love and care. Raised in Houston, Jay attended San Jacinto High School and then attended Texas A&M University where he majored in accounting. Jay worked an almost unprecedented 43 years as Chief Financial O?cer for Tideland Signal Corporation. He loved his career at Tideland and valued his relationships with his accounting sta?. Years after his retirement, he showed up every year on Valentine’s Day with chocolate heart boxes in hand. Jay thoroughly enjoyed his retirement and looked forward to daily exercise and co?ee at Chancellors Family Center with a cherished close-knit group of friends.

Jay was a proud Houstonian, an even prouder Aggie, and a die hard football enthusiast. He loved watching his Aggie’s play football, and there wasn’t a football game on that he would not watch. He loved to garden, barbecue, attend live Broadway and theater shows and read while he perpetually sunbathed. He had a kind heart and cared about those around him. He is remembered by his grandchildren as a constant attendee at all of their events and for endless rounds of silly games. He is also remembered for his smile that would brighten an entire room, his gentleness of spirit, his fantastic, full head of hair and his beautiful soul. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word. Jay was proud to be Jewish and was a longtime member of Congregation Emanu El. The Albert family would like to thank Dr. Eric Bernicker, Dr. Ryan Thai, Dr. Michael Campbell and Dr. Robert Grossman as well as the wonderful nursing sta? at The Methodist Hospital for their expertise and exceptional care over these past few months. A loving and heartfelt thank you to Vivian Robinson, Abigail Anyanwu, Rahel Mulgatea, Paulette Robinson and Wanda Radford for the special care and aid they provided to Jay and Marilyn at their time of need.

The family wishes that remembrances to Jay be donated to Neema International (www.neemainternational.org) where a “Babu Fund” will be set up in Tanzania to aid the grandparents and great-grandparents who work tirelessly to raise their orphaned grandchildren. Jay loved and was loved. Marilyn, Julie, Layne, Rhonda, Justin, Kyle, Mandy, Baraka, Connor, Paige and Ronnie are eternally grateful for their wonderful memories of their beloved “Grandpa.”
