FEBRUARY 1, 1937 – NOVEMBER 6, 2019
A celebration of the life of Ed Swindle will be held at 11am on November 12, 2019 at Memorial Baptist Church in Killeen. Visitation will be at 10am at the church. Ed completed his life on earth on November 6th, 2019.
C.B. and Effie (Roberts) Swindle were, no doubt, surprised to welcome not one, but two babies into the family on February 1, 1937. Ed and Ted were born in Cedar Gap, Texas, located in Taylor County. The twins joined older siblings Pearl, W. C., Geneva, and Virginia. Ed grew up on a farm in Tuscola, Texas.
After graduating from high school, Ed left Tuscola for College Station to become a Texas A & M Cadet. After graduating in 1961, Ed took a teaching job in Killeen. He earned a Master of Education degree in 1968 from Texas A & M.
During his 31 year teaching career, he lead students and teachers at Rancier Junior High, Fairway Junior High, Pershing Park Elementary, and Nolan Middle Schools. Ed both encouraged and challenged his students as he taught them science.
It was at Rancier Junior High that he first met Gladys Faye White and knew he wanted to marry her. The two married in June of 1964. They enjoyed life together for 50 years until she passed away in 2015.
Ed and Gladys joined Memorial Baptist Church in Killeen in 1966. Ed was a faithful servant at Memorial. He served as deacon, trustee, Special Education Sunday School Teacher, and on various committees.
He is preceded in death by his parents, C.B. and Effie (Roberts) Swindle; his wife, Gladys Faye White Swindle; and siblings, Pearl Swindle Dickens, W. C. Swindle, and Ted Swindle. He is survived by sisters, Geneva Swindle Attaway, Virginia Swindle Frierson, brothers-in-law and their wives, Larry and Joy White, Jimmy and Sharon White, and Clinton and Carolyn White, and many nieces and nephews. Ed had many friends who cared for him after Gladys’ death.
Ed was known for his friendly smile and warm handshake and continued to demonstrate these qualities despite dementia. Ed has gone to a place where his smile will never fade and where he will be rewarded for his service here on earth.
