1926 - 2017

John Glenn Halsell Jr. CROWELL--John Glenn Halsell Jr., 91, passed from this life into Heaven at his home in Crowell, Texas, on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017. SERVICE: 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, at the First Baptist Church of Crowell, with Rev. Christopher McLain officiating. Burial will be in the Crowell Cemetery under the direction of Womack-Manard Funeral Home in Crowell. Visitation: 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, at the funeral home. MEMORIALS: The family suggests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 786, Crowell, Texas. He was born on March 14, 1926, in Fort Worth, Texas, son of the late John Glenn Halsell Sr. and Eugenia Hill Halsell Maxwell. He married Anne Christina Sisterson on June 10, 1960, in McKinney, Texas. He graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1943 and attended one year of college before joining the United States Navy to train as a fighter pilot during World War II. When the war ended, he finished his college degree at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. He always spent his summers working on the family ranch. Following his college graduation, he formed a partnership with his brothers, and they ran a cattle business until his brother's death. He then established his own Three Circle Ranch. He loved the land and was a good steward of his cattle and his land. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Crowell. In 1995, he was awarded Regional 1 Conservation Rancher of the year. In 2012, he was selected as one of the Trailblazers of the Ranch Roundup in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was an outstanding rancher. Throughout his lifetime, he showed in word and deed that he earned the respect of the cattle industry. He was preceded in death by two infant sons, William Bud Halsell in 1968 and Jed Halsell in 1969; brother, Furd "Bud" Halsell II on Jan. 31, 1966; sister, Eugenia Halsell Montgomery on Nov. 18, 2014. SURVIVORS: Wife of "57" years, Anne; daughter, Carolyn Smead and husband, Kent; son, John Glenn Halsell III and wife, Kim; granddaughters, Anne Smead, Mackenzie Smead, Elizabeth Smead, Lauren West and husband, Zane, Jacee Halsell, Katie Halsell; great-grandson, Wayne West. sister, Marilyn Maxwell; numerous nieces and nephews.
