Ralph Gonzales Martinez
Birth Date: December 8, 1941 Death Date: October 6, 2019
Ralph Gonzales Martinez passed away on October 06, 2019 in Dallas, Texas. Ralph courageously lost his battle with (IPF) Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis a terminal lung disease. Ralph Gonzales Martinez was born on December 8th, 1941 born and raised in Dallas, Texas. Ralph is preceded in death by his mother Eloisa Gonzales from Taylor, Texas, daughter Patricia Ann Martinez and father Joe Martinez. Ralph is survived by his ex -wife Beatrice Varela the mother of his five children. Deborah Ann Perez (Nick Perez), Suzanne Martinez Estrada (Richard Estrada), Lizanne Painter (Mark Painter)and his only son Kendall Ralph Martinez. Seven grandchildren : Allyson Perez , Angela Ortega (Ed Ortega) , Adam Perez, Anthony Painter(Emily Painter), Cody Painter, Patricia Sheridan Espana (Josh Espana), Kendra Martinez.
14 great-grandchildren. Sisters Mary Alice Jimenez, Norma Coronado. As well as five half siblings residing in San Bernardino, CA: Mike Martinez, Luis Martinez, Joseph Martinez, Anita Soria and Maria Chambers.
Ralph graduated from Crozier Tech High School in Dallas Texas where he was inspired to become an Architect. Ralph graduated from Texas A & M University with a Bachelor of Architectural Studies.
In the late 1970’s Ralph became a Licensed Architect where he established his own business July 1978 as “RGM Architects/Planner. Ralph specialized in designing facilities for DISD and DFW Airport as well as
other numerous commercial facilities. Including West Dallas Multipurpose of Singleton Rd in West Dallas. Fort Worth’s Multipurpose Assisted living facility in his area of Lake Highlands.
Ralph’s legacy was advocating for the underserved Hispanic communities. In the 1980’s Ralph fought Dallas City Council to approve facilities for the advancement of minorities quality of life.
Ralph took time away from RGM and worked as a facilities project manager for American Airlines. Ralph loved to travel he was excited about traveling to the South American countries for AA. Ralph also took a teaching position and became a Mathematics professor at El Centro.
During his illness he still managed to oversee his latest accomplishments for DISD including the design completion of a newly renovated Edna Rowe Elementary School and Mata Elementary under the firm RGM Architects. His passion for designs fueled his determination for perfection and quality.
Ralph also made time to serve his community in the Dallas area as a member of Ft Worth Chamber of Commerce and Arlington Chamber of Commerce and the Regional Hispanic Contractors. He was previously a member of the United League of American Council 272, President of the Greater Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club. Ralph was a trailblazer which in the 1980’s he was the first Hispanic Architectural Firm for the City of Dallas MWBE programs.
Ralph enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He had great joy for listening to jazz music and attending jazz festivals. He loved the sound of piano playing. He traveled many places experiencing the world as an architectural realm.
He loved his children dearly and he will always remain in our hearts forever.
