Colonel Robert William Siegert, Jr.
May 17, 1927 – September 26, 2019

Colonel Robert William Siegert Jr., 92, of College Station, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2019. The visitation will be held from 5 – 7pm, Monday, September 30, 2019 at the Funeral Center. The Funeral Service will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at First Baptist Church, College Station. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers, Bryan-College Station.

Robert W. Siegert , 92, of College Station, passed away peacefully September 26, 2019. Robert Siegert was born 17 May 1927 along the Brazos River bottom to Robert W. Siegert, Sr and Lillian B. Siegert and grew up in the Smetana community of Brazos County. He had three sisters, Norma, Oma and Dot.

Robert graduated in 1945 from Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan, enlisted in the Army in 1947 and attended Texas A&M where he was commissioned in the Army Infantry in 1951. He graduated in 1964 from Sam Houston State University.

In 1948 he met his future wife, Dorothy Alice Clary, of Bryan, and they were married in March of 1951. They have three children Robert III, M. Patrick and Suzy.

While in the Army Robert served in a variety of posts in the US and overseas and became a pilot, achieving the status of Master Aviator. During the Vietnam War he commanded the 1st Aviation Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. His awards included the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross and Bronze Star medals.
When Robert retired from the Army, he returned to Bryan-College Station where he became a rancher raising Beefmaster cattle. Robert also served on the Board of Directors of University National Bank in College Station and became board chair in 1986.

Robert attended and was a Deacon at First Baptist Church of College Station, a role he cherished as he loved welcoming members and guests as an usher and greeter.

Col. Siegert was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Norma Autrey of Bryan; Oma Spong of Erdenheim, PA and Dorothy Bilbo of Bryan and his great-grandson, Barron, of College Station. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy Clary Siegert, sons, Robert W. Siegert, III and wife, Faye Siegert of Chantilly, Virginia; M. Patrick Siegert of College Station and daughter Elizabeth Hines, of Bryan. Robert and Dorothy have seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
