Graveside services for Robert Leon "Bobby" Welch, age 83, of Palestine, Texas will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Chapel of the Air at Land of Memory Cemetery with Dan Manuel officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.

Mr. Welch died Friday, December 28, 2007, at his residence.

He was born July 22, 1924, in Palestine, to Rufus Leon "Slim" and Annie Lee Hanks Welch.

Mr. Welch was a graduate of Texas A&M University and served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific theater during World War II. He was a private pilot and loved aviation. He retired from the Texas Department of Corrections where he worked on the Coffield farms. He was a Methodist and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3907.

Mr. Welch is survived by one daughter, Marcy Kim Bain of Haughton, La.; granddaughter, Amanda Bain of Haughton; and cousins, Gene Cross of Akins and Stanley Hanks of Lake Whitney.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the VFW Post 3907.
