AUGUST 14, 1942 – SEPTEMBER 9, 2019

Paul Jonathan Young, Ph.D., P.E., died on Monday, September 9, 2019 in Arlington, Texas.
Jonathan had more than 45 years of civil and environmental engineering experience, specializing in water quality management, planning, runoff, sites, and permits, as well as specializing in computer modeling of water quality and regulatory compliance.

He received his Ph.D. in both Environmental and Civil Engineering in 1972 from Texas A&M University; his Masters and Bachelors in Civil Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University and his undergraduate education from Dartmouth College. Professionally, he has been affiliated with the American Water Resources Association, and served as treasurer with the North Texas Hazardous Materials Association. He has been recognized in several honorary societies: Tau Beta Pi, Chi Epsilon, and Sigma Xi as well as being invited to speak and write over 200 papers in his profession over the years.

He has been an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at Arlington for several years and the Manhattan College in New York, both in water quality studies. He was also a Cowboys fan.

Jonathan was active and served as president for a year with the Kiwanis Arlington Southwest as well as for the Board of the Shepard of Life Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arlington on Lamar, where a remembrance of his life will be shared on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 2:00 PM.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA to Nelda Gillespie and Paul Samuel Young in 1942, he leaves behind his wife, Evelyn Dunsavage Young; sister, Alison Bauer, and husband, Doug; favorite nephew, Scott Bauer (a Washington Redskins' fan) and wife, Megan Michel, and their children Tess and Graham; his favorite niece, Dana Bauer, and her husband, Peter, and their child, Andy Jaye; and four stepchildren -- his wife's son, Douglas Dunsavage, and his wife, Laura Strother, and their two children, Kemp and Hillam; his wife's daughter, Jennifer Vogelgesang, and her husband, Brad, and their two children, Chase and Samantha; his wife's daughter, Katrina Dunsavage, and her son, Miles Gunnels; and his deceased wife, Nancy Riney's daughter, Kay Riney, and her daughter, Sara.

In lieu of flowers, contributions could be made to the Arlington (TX) Mission, KERA (PBS Station), or the Autism Asperger's Digest, all of which are nonprofits.
