Norman Carter Orthwein
December 14, 1938 - August 24, 2019

Norman Carter Orthwein died peacefully at the age of 80 on Saturday, August 24, 2019, after battling cancer. He was born in Dallas, Texas to William and Mildred Carter on December 14, 1938. He has been a resident of Flower Mound since the early 90's. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1960 with a Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering. He then went on to get his Master's from the University of Tulsa, where he met his loving wife Sharon. They married in 1962, moved to Houston, where Norman worked for ARCO Petroleum as a registered professional petroleum engineer. Their son Mark was born in 1963. Norman retired at age 52, and the family moved back to the DFW area. He and Sharon were active in bridge club, Lewisville Symphony, and Friends of the Flower Mound Library. Norman was an avid reader, competitive tennis player for most of his life, and enjoyed most sports, especially watching his alma mater Texas A & M. Norman was preceded in death by his wife Sharon, who passed away May 4, 2019, his brother Steve and both parents. He was survived by his son Mark, sister and her husband Shirley and John Schofield, sister and her husband, Terry and Roger Hogle. He was also survived by three nephews, two nieces and seven great nieces and nephews. Celebration of Life will be held September 14, 2019 at Episcopal Church of Annunciation, Lewisville, Tx. @ 5:00 pm. Reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society are appreciated.
