Meghan Keedy Rothwell
August 3, 1982 - August 28, 2019
Meghan Keedy Rothwell passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at her home in Katy, Texas, after a 20-month battle with bile duct cancer.
Meghan was born on August 3, 1982, in New Orleans, Louisiana to Charles Robert and Margaret Haffey Keedy. She attended Texas A&M University, where she ran track and cross-country, rode with the cycling club, made life-long friends through her involvement with St. Mary’s Catholic Center, and received a B.S. in Molecular and Cell Biology in 2004. She then attended the University of Texas Medical Branch, where she adopted a mentee through Big Brothers Big Sisters and earned a Masters of Physician Assistant Studies in 2007. Following graduation, Meghan worked as a physician assistant.
On May 11, 2013, she married William Rothwell at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Houston. Together, they welcomed William “Paul” Rothwell, IV on April 21, 2014; Mary Ellen Rothwell on May 31, 2016; and Claire Elizabeth Rothwell on December 1, 2017. Although her three small children kept her very busy, Meghan lived an active lifestyle. She competed in numerous triathlons and cycling races, and she even qualified for and ran the Boston Marathon. In the later stages of her illness, she enjoyed crocheting blankets for her children and other family members.
Meghan was a devout Catholic and had just joined Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church after moving to Katy in July 2019. Previously, while living in Sugar Land, she was involved in the Moms & Tots Ministry and GIFT (Growing in Faith Together) Group at St. Laurence. She also sponsored RCIA candidates at St. Anne, taught RCIA classes at the Co-Cathedral, and was a board member of the Catholic Healthcare Professionals of Houston.
Meghan is survived by her parents, husband, and three children; grandmothers, Mrs. John J. Haffey, Jr. of Arlington, Virginia, and Mary Ellen Keedy of Hagerstown, Maryland; older brother, Ryan Michael Keedy and his wife Jackie of Livermore, California; twin sister, Julia Ann Keedy of Denver, Colorado; younger sister, Allison Nell Thannisch and her husband Wilson of Austin, Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 6, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, 1344 W. Grand Parkway South, in Katy. Deacon John Evanoff will host a vigil service beginning at 7:00 p.m., which will include prayer, scripture readings, and words of remembrance. Following the vigil service, all are invited to participate in a praying of the rosary.
Father Lawrence Jozwiak will celebrate a funeral Mass on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at 12:15 p.m. at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1111 St. Joseph Parkway, in Houston. After Mass, the family will host a reception at the nearby Cathedral Center, 1701 San Jacinto Street. At 3:30 p.m., Meghan will be laid to rest with a Rite of Committal at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road.
Meghan requested that those wishing to make memorial gifts donate to the Texas Right to Life Educational Fund or to Bo’s Place. Meghan was passionately pro-life, and the Texas Right to Life Educational Fund supports the training of the next generation of pro-life leaders at Texas high schools and colleges (https://www.texasrighttolife.com/ways-to-give/honorariums-and-memorial-giving/). Bo’s Place offers grief support services, including specific programs for young children who have lost a parent (https://www.bosplace.org/en/support-someone-grieving/).
